2. • A. The Report on Jesus’ Healing of People’s Maladies
Matthew Chapter 14
Crossing the lake, they came to land at Gennesaret.
Recognizing Jesus, the men of that place sent word to all
the surrounding country that Jesus was there. And the
people brought to him all those who were sick. And they
begged him that they might touch even only the tassel of
his cloak. There were many who touched it, and were
healed.
3. • The Sacred Teaching on the Narrative
1. Jesus Christ as the fulfillment of the promises of the Old
Testament
-The Old Testament texts spoke of a person in the future who will
perform miracles such as giving cure to ailments and diseases. The
following Old Testament texts speak of this person:
*Isaiah Chapter 35
*Isaiah Chapter 61
2. Jesus’ capability to cure diseases because He is God, the word
made flesh
-Jesus was capable of curing illness with His mere touch or word.
He had the power to do so without resorting to any medicinal
intervention because He is God. He is Word who became flesh and
everything came to be through Him and without Him nothing came
to be(cf. Jn 1:1-3,14)
4. 3. Jesus and Faith
-Faith is one of the key elements in most of Jesus’ miracles. To
acquire healing, one should have faith in Jesus’ capabilities. Without
faith in Him, healing is impossible.
4. Jesus and His”pity/mercy”
-There were reported instances that Jesus performed healing
miracles without demanding faith or belief in Him. He healed them
out of mercy and love.
5. Faith in Jesus and in his divine mercy that pushes us to plead
for miracle
-We express our faith in Jesus’ mercy through prayer. In prayer, we
talk to God.
There are four varied ways of praying:
a. Praising God;
b. Thanking God for the blessings received;
c. Asking God for pardon for sins/mistakes/errors; and
d. Beseeching God for particular graces
5. 6. Jesus’ miraculous cure through the works of other people
-The faith of the people in God is enough for Him to cure their loved
one through His mercy
-As a community, we must also pray for the needs of others.
