Cnidarians are a large phylum of over 10,000 aquatic and marine species. Jellyfish, which live in bays and oceans, were selected as the focus. They lack specialized digestive, respiratory, and circulatory systems, instead absorbing oxygen through their skin and digesting food within their gastrovascular cavity before expelling waste through their mouth. Jellyfish reproduce through a complex life cycle involving eggs, sperm, larva, polyps, and medusa stages.

Cuttlefish (Sepia latimanus) are found in warm waters in the South and East China Sea and around Indonesia and northern Australia. They have soft bodies and eight arms and tentacles used to catch prey like shrimp, crab, and small fish. Cuttlefish reproduce sexually and lay eggs that hatch within weeks to months. They have advanced nervous systems and eyes similar to humans. Cuttlefish move using fins in a wave-like motion and have a cuttlebone for buoyancy control.

Sea wasp
The Box jellyfish lives in northern Australia and New Guinea, found both deep in the ocean and near coral reefs. It is a skilled hunter with 24 eyes that help it hunt, though only 16 can detect light. Most have a clear body with white stingers, and a box-shaped bell rather than a dome. Their conservation status is unknown but their population is likely in the millions. They feed on small fish and zooplankton. Reproduction occurs when male jellyfish release sperm into the water that fertilizes eggs on the female's tentacles. Box jellyfish are predators in their ecosystem and few predators can withstand their venom.
