Our new Vision Mission and Values (VMV) initiative is designed to capture all that makes
JEC service delivery exceptional. This issue of JEC Magazine takes a close-up look at JEC
Thailand through the lens of our four T.E.A.M. values to better understand what we’re doing
right, and how to maintain excellence in engineering and customer service.
The last few months have seen a number of outstanding contract successes around the region.
In the Philippines, our growing strength in water and wastewater treatment has seen JEC
tasked with the complete design, construction, testing, and commissioning of a new facility that
will produce 100 million litres of potable water per day, as well as operation of the plant for at
least a year following, in western Metro Manila.
JEC Singapore is appointed to provide engineering and building services at Keppel Towers,
and will deliver addition and alteration works and install an MVAC system at the Grand Park
City Hall Hotel.
Meanwhile, JEC Hong Kong has secured contracts with the Hong Kong Housing Society to
provide Electrical and MVAC Systems to subsidised sale flats in Shatin, to upgrade the building
management system across the main campus of the University of Hong Kong, and MTR
Corporation, to replace chillers at Wanchai MTR station.
You can also learn about JEC’s participation in the biennial Build4Asia show, in Hong Kong,
where the distinctive JEC booth presented some of our leading engineering solutions.
Finally, I’d like to commend Tsang Tak Yin and Tsang Tak Keung, brothers in our Maintenance
and Renovation department, who have between them an amazing nine decades of service with
JEC, with both still proudly delivering unrivalled engineering solutions to our customers. Read
their story inside.

容會從T.E.A.M.四大核心價值出發，細究泰國怡和機器的發展，讓讀者了解我們的成功之道，以
及如何在工程和客戶服務方面維持優秀表現。
近幾個月來，我們在區內獲得不少重大的合約。在菲律賓，怡和機器將負責設計、興建、測試
及調試一座新的食水處理設施。新設施位於馬尼拉西部，每日可生產1億公升食水，落成後會由
怡和機器負責營運最少一年。這個項目反映我們在當地有關水務處理的業務愈見優勢。
在新加坡，怡和機器獲指定為吉寶中心的機電工程及屋宇裝備工程服務供應商。另外亦會為君
樂皇府酒店進行加建及改建工程，並安裝機械通風及空調系統。
與此同時，怡和機器在香港也獲得數份重要合約，包括為香港房屋協會位於沙田的資助出售房
屋提供電氣和機械通風及空調系統；為香港大學本部校園的樓宇管理系統進行升級工程，以及
為港鐵公司更換灣仔站的制冷機組。
上個月怡和機器參與了兩年一度的Build4Asia展覽，展示了不少與時並進的工程方案。相關消息
亦載於本刊內。
最後，我想推介曾德賢與曾德強的故事。曾氏兄弟在怡和機器的保養及維修部合共服務了長達
九十年，現時仍致力為客戶提供優質的工程方案，實在令人敬佩。

EC Thailand has come a long way since the
1930s, when the Hong Kong–based Jardine
Matheson Group established an operation in
the kingdom – making it one of the most venerable
parts of the JEC family. As Thailand's economy and
built environment have grown and matured, especially
in Bangkok, one of Asia's five largest cities, JEC
operations in Thailand have also grown significantly to
meet local needs.

For more than 50 years, JEC Thailand and its forerunners have placed
a special focus on services and contracting solutions – installing and
maintaining the air-conditioning, security, communications and fire
systems of major projects, from shopping malls to airports.
JEC Thailand understands that success in this field requires more than
a high degree of technical competence. To secure fruitful and long-
lasting relationships with customers, it is necessary to win their trust and
confidence. Often this takes time, with smaller initial projects serving as
a testbed to demonstrate service levels, and for the parties to discover
one another. Always important in convincing prospects to consider JEC
is reputable professional certification, while a recommendation by a
customer's trusted partner or peer goes a long way too. Another valuable

proposal, that JEC's capability simply shines through.
This effort is embodied in the set of values that everyone at JEC knows

In the ME business that is the backbone of JEC Thailand's offering, it is
often the test and commission phase that most clearly distinguishes the
most technically able providers such as JEC in the industry.
This was seen in the acclaimed installation of the world's first and largest
radiant floor cooling system at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport, which
cleverly maintains comfortable levels of temperature, humidity and air
freshness in an air layer across 38 hectares of occupied floor area,
but only up to just above everyone's heads, minimising both costs and
environmental impact in these cavernous buildings. JEC Thailand is now
recognised as a leader in this field.
Among the hundreds of creative technical endeavours that JEC Thailand
has been involved with, a notable current project is the MRT Blue
Line Extension Project at two metro stations, Wat Mangkon and Wang
Burapha, in central Bangkok, for which, in 2014, JEC Thailand was
awarded the sub-contract to supply, install, test and commission the
environmental control systems.

要維持泰國怡和機器的技術優勢，並以此取信於
客戶，就必須獲得廣被認受的專業認證。對一眾
高效能屋宇裝備供應商而言，美國國家環境平衡局
(NEBB) 是為行業樹立標準、程序及規格的重要認證
團體，負責評估供應商是否合資格為供暖、通風及
冷氣系統進行測試、調整及平衡工作。
自2014年起，泰國怡和機器取得NEBB認證，合符
資格承辦上述工作，以檢測屋宇裝備的運作效率，
從而為項目業主提供專屬的解決方案。泰國怡和機
器是泰國首間、東南亞第三間獲得NEBB認證的公
司。
泰國一些有遠見的客戶，會聘請獲NEBB認證的承建
商承接項目，特別是涉及測試和調試的項目，如外
國領事館、無塵室和醫院。
當今建築設計的一大趨勢是採用建築信息模擬 (BIM)
技術，以電腦模型展示建築設計，演示已相連接的

發展的一大里程碑。泰國怡和機器亦立即傾力支援
這間新公司，安排工程師及管理人員定期造訪以分
享工程知識，特別是機電工程系統及工序的知識。
緬甸怡和機器亦會派員工到曼谷接受工程管理及成
本估算的訓練，同時認識日趨重要的工程管理和支
援技術。
FEATURE STORY
To maintain JEC Thailand's technical capabilities, and to convey this
differentiating advantage to clients, a key tool is the attainment of respected
industry certification. Among providers of high performance building systems,
the benchmark certification body for industry standards, procedures and
specification is the NEBB (National Environmental Balancing Bureau), which
assesses delivery of testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB) of systems such
as heating, ventilation and air-conditioning.
Since 2014, JEC Thailand has been certified by NEBB as able to undertake
TAB of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems and to investigate
and determine building systems' efficiency and provide customised solutions
for project owners, the first company in Thailand to secure this recognition,
and only the third in South East Asia.
Forward-thinking customers in Thailand, such as for a new foreign embassy
complex, or in cleanrooms and hospitals, require NEBB certification,
especially for projects that involve testing and commissioning.
An emerging trend in building design is the adoption of a building information
model (BIM) approach, in which designs are rendered as computer models
comprising interconnected geometrical objects tagged with relationships
and attributes. To secure a lead in this innovative domain, the company has
established the first BIM Centre in Thailand, to develop the capability to
handle larger and more complex BIM projects and provide staff with training
in this latest critical skill set.
Another winning source of empowerment at JEC Thailand is its dynamic and
growing apprenticeship programme, which offers diploma and degree students
from Thailand's strongest educational institutions the opportunity to develop
their personal skills and familiarity with a major engineering organisation, in
paid positions that expose them to multiple facets of the business, for periods
of two to four months, all under the guidance of an experienced mentor. This
responsible approach serves the needs of the students, the company, and
society at large, as it strengthens the pool of engineering talent in the country,
sharing JEC's capabilities and empowering young individuals.
The establishment of JEC Myanmar in 2013 was an exciting breakthrough
for the company in the SE Asia region. JEC Thailand immediately stepped
up to offer its full support, with engineers and managers making regular trips
to this new JEC operation to share engineering competencies, especially
in ME systems and processes. The traffic was two-way, as selected
JEC Myanmar staff came over to Bangkok to receive training in business
management and cost estimation, as well as a range of up-and-coming
technologies in business management and ever-important support functions.

It is at the core of JEC's mission to offer integrated
solutions to customers. To make this a reality and
deliver the full spectrum of engineering solutions and
services to address customers' present and future needs as one team,
a great strength of the JEC model – and certainly at JEC Thailand –
has always been the high level of cooperation among departments and
teams, with constant interaction and sharing of news, ideas and technical
developments.
Not only is there a fluidity in collaboration and support across disciplines,
so too there is transfer between generations, as JEC's many long-serving
staff share their years of experience with younger and newer members of
the team.
JEC Thailand clearly recognises that this depth of experience of its senior
staff is its greatest asset, and has developed a rigorous knowledge
capture process in order to coordinate and regularise the experience,
engineering values, installation and maintenance techniques, and
management capability built up over the years, and bring it together
as the ME System Standards of JEC Thailand, which can then be
disseminated to all teams.
Throughout the year, the company arranges in-house courses to provide
relevant technical training for staff at all levels – including in basic ME
systems, ME overview workflow, installation process schedule, drawing
standards, building automation systems and fire protection systems.
Wherever possible, experienced staff are invited to be the facilitators,
allowing them an opportunity to share and teach the next generation of
JEC Thailand staff.

building, AIA-Sathorn, it nominated JEC Thailand as the preferred ME
contractor to supply, install, test and commission a similar set of systems
over 70,000 square metres of this 27-storey office tower in the nation's
capital. Key contributors to the win were the excellent working relationship
between JEC and the first main contractor and the company's consistently
high standards of site and project management, leading to a smooth
implementation, plus of course the trust between customer and JEC.
Another customer whose close-up experience of JEC Thailand's project
handling built trust and led to a fruitful relationship was the long-established
Bhiraj Buri Group. Expertly executed ME work by the company on the air
conditioning, sanitary and fire systems for the shopping mall and 45-storey
office tower of the EmQuartier and Bhiraj Tower, greatly impressed our
client. The trust that established meant that when, in 2014, a timeline of
only sixteen months was available for a US$50-million ME project to
supply, install and test and commission HVAC, electrical, communications,
fire and other systems for the expansion of Bangkok International Trade
and Exhibition Centre to more than twice its original area, at 70,000 square
metres (BITEC II), JEC was awarded the contract, as the client recognised
the deep dependability that JEC Thailand could bring to the project.

Over these many decades, the team at JEC Thailand have
grown and strengthened their business according to local
needs, guided by a set of values that they and the rest of
the JEC family have established through experience and
endeavour. Today, in pursuit of JEC's vision of 'Together we
engineer a better Asia', these values are codified and shared
as T.E.A.M. – Technical Proficiency, Empowered Workforce,
Alliance, Masterful Customer Service.
Mr. Narongchai Chavanussaporn, Managing Director of JEC
Thailand is no doubt where the company's strength and
prospects lie. Our key business focus is on ME services
and contracting solutions. So our continuing success depends
crucially on the technical ability, personal skills and creativity
of our teams. We can provide the technology, resources,
coordination and ongoing training, but it is our staff that the
customers interact with and their decisions and relationship
management are what determine whether we win or lose that
business, he says.
The T.E.A.M. values provide the framework that allows
team members to deliver for JEC Thailand, says Mr
Chavanussaporn. The balance and combination of strengths
in the team is then translated into successful projects through
the day-to-day implementation of these values, which
represent the JEC way of doing business in Thailand.
And what works in Thailand works throughout JEC. Technical
competence delivered by individuals and teams who
understand the needs of their customers, applying T.E.A.M.
values to help make that vision of a better Asia a reality.

明及防火保安展覽會，今屆吸引了約9,500位來自本地、中國內地、韓國及其他東南亞國家的海內外買家到場參觀。
怡和機器的展位設計別出心裁，展示了多項可持續解決工程方案，包括能源效益、水務管理、照明、室內空氣質素、建築產品、創新
保安系統和方案以及消防產品。我們的同事與參觀買家互相交流行業資訊及推廣展品的技術和特點，對拓展公司業務起着重要的作

n between 4th-6th May, 2016, JEC participated in the Asia's
leading biennial tradeshow, Build4Asia, which was held at
the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre. The event
was known as Asia's largest tradeshow for building, electrical
engineering and security services, with around 9,500 local and
overseas trade buyers coming from China, Taiwan, Korea and other
Southeast Asian countries.
The distinctive JEC Stand featured sustainable engineering
solutions in different aspects, including Energy Efficiency, Water
Management, Lightings, Green Building Technologies, Building
Products, Innovative Security Systems and Solutions, and Fire
Services Equipment. The visitors and our colleagues exchanged
useful market information and technical knowledge about the
exhibits. It was an eventful and meaningful occasion for networking
and business development.

010年，由設計及興建污水處理廠和污水泵房
開始，怡和機器勇於開拓水務管理系統這一
個新的業務範疇。首份合約是在菲律賓興建
Taguig Baybreeze 污水處理廠，每日能處理4千萬公
升污水。成功完成項目後，公司再獲另一合約，興建
每日處理量達7.5千萬公升的Libingan ng mga Bayani
污水處理廠。
為擴充水務處理業務，怡和機器現時亦涉足食水處
理廠的設計及建造項目。公司最近更獲得菲律賓
Putatan食水處理廠二期項目的重要合約，反映新業
務的發展前景光明。
Putatan食水處理廠二期的合約總值高達1億美元，是
Maynilad Water Services的項目。該公司是菲律賓

I
n 2010, JEC boldly entered the new business area of water
management systems, initially focusing on the design and build of
wastewater treatment plants and wastewater pumping stations. Its
first contract success in The Philippines, for construction of the Taguig
Baybreeze Sewage Treatment Plant – able to process 40 million litres of
wastewater per day (MLD) – was soon followed by another win, to build
the 75 MLD Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) STP.
To expand its business in the water sector, JEC has now ventured into the
design and build of potable water treatment plants. This looks a promising
move, with the recent award of the contract to develop the Putatan Water
Treatment Plant 2 in The Philippines.
Putatan 2 plant is a USD 100 Million design and build project which will
provide clean drinking water to almost 6 million people in the metropolitan
area of Manila with a capacity of 100,000 m3
per day, extendable to
150,000 m3
per day. The project is from Maynilad Water Services, a
concessionaire of Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, which
provides water, sewerage and sanitation services to western Metro Manila.
The scope includes the design, construction, testing, and commissioning
of the new plant, as well as the operation of the plant for at least a year
following completion of the commissioning. The project will apply advanced
technologies including ultra-filtration and reverse osmosis, which together
assure high and reliable water quality standards.
Implementation of the project will require deft project management,
bringing together the skills, credentials and resources of various internal
and external parties, under diverse disciplines including water treatment
processes, mechanical electrical engineering, and civil engineering. It
will be vital to create and structure the right partnerships in order to deliver
the project within the stringent project timeline. To deliver this project JEC
has partnered with Acciona Agua Spain and FreyFil Corporation.
The Putatan Water Treatment Plant 2 is part of JEC’s ongoing commitment
to undertake quality environmental infrastructure projects that widen
and deepen the use of energy-efficient and environmentally responsible
engineering and the use of new technologies.

EC's Maintenance and Renovation team has been awarded a significant contract from
the Hong Kong Housing Society for the installation of Electrical, Extra Low Voltage (ELV)
and MVAC systems at Greenhill Villa, a subsidised sale flats project in Shatin.
The project covers three 35 to 38-storey towers providing over 1,000 small and medium-
sized flats as well as two levels of basement carpark and a clubhouse on G/F. JEC is
responsible for the supply and installation of various EM systems including power supply
and main switchboard, security system, CCTV system, VRV Unit and ventilation system.
The project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2018.

EC's Maintenance and Renovation team has been awarded a contract from The
University of Hong Kong (HKU) for AAI - Improvement of Building Management
System (BMS) in 19 buildings in Main Campus for integrated monitoring. The
scope covers integration of existing BMS in 19 buildings located in HKU and extension
of the BMS including some new building system provisions. The new BMS shall enhance
HKU's ability to remotely control and manage various building systems, hence adding
values to the existing operations with increased visibility on systems performance and
swift incident management. With integrated monitoring, it also facilitates potential energy
saving initiatives while users' comfort and needs are maintained.
For MTR Corporation, JEC's Maintenance and Renovation team has won a contract for chiller replacement at Wanchai MTR station
and while Electrical and Mechanical Contracting team has secured another significant contract to provide floodgate system for Shatin
to Central Link Phase 2. The floodgate provision will be complex, as there are two ventilation buildings with a total of 6 floodgates
installed and constructed to prevent influx of the sea water to the land section of the tunnel, in the event of heavy leakage of seawater
due to rupture of the immersed tube.
We are keen to provide engineering solutions to help customers in improving their facility management and system operating objectives
that suit their best interests.

EC Singapore has been awarded two significant contracts in the first quarter of 2016. The company was appointed as the facilities
manager of Keppel Towers and Keppel Towers 2, providing electrical and mechanical engineering works and building services at
these premises.
Furthermore, JECS (Thermal) has been working on a 20-months new contract with the Grand Park City Hall Hotel since April this year,
covering 10 storeys and two basements. The scope of the contract focuses on the addition and alteration (AA) works and MVAC
system installation, replacing chillers, cooling towers, building management system and electrical works.
The winning of the contracts validates the technical competent of JEC Singapore JECS (Thermal) in providing dependable
facilities management, AA and MVAC services to its customers.

MC was awarded the Best Construction Sites Housekeeping
Award (Electrical Mechanical Projects Division) for Contract No.
DE/2013/05 – Provision of EM Facilities for Tin Liu Ha Sewage
Pumping Station and Tong Min Tsuen Sewage Pumping Station, which is
the first EM contract in Drainage services Department (DSD) adopting
Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC) Option C of New Engineering
Contract (NEC) form. A presentation ceremony was hosted by DSD on 19th
March 2016. Led by Mr. C K Tam, Managing Director – EM Contracting
and Mr. Alex Law, Assistant General Manager – EM Contracting, the
project team received the award from Mr. Edwin Tong Ka-hung, Director
of DSD, in recognition of their outstanding performance during the project
execution.

he 3rd Cross-Strait Forum on Smart Rail Development – Present Future was
successfully held on 9th-11th March 2016 at the Hong Kong Convention Exhibition
Centre. The Forum was organised by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE),
and co-organised by China Communications and Transportation Association, Rail Engineering
Society of Taiwan and the Macau Institution of Engineers. Over 250 delegates coming from
Hong Kong, mainland China, Macau and Taiwan, attended the Forum.
In the Forum, an exhibition was held concurrently which provided an opportunity for the
industry to showcase innovative projects and new technologies to enhance their business
growth. JEC is delighted to participate in the event as an exhibitor, showcasing our projects
and engineering expertise in the railway sector across Asia. Our existing railway projects
focus on trackside maintenance works, security and safety segments. We will continue to
work with stakeholders to engineer a better railway sector in the region.

he annual staff event, JEC Spring Dinner, was held successfully
on 4th March 2016 at the Star Hall of the Kowloonbay International
Trade and Exhibition Centre. The theme of this year's annual dinner
was JEC Wulin Congress, one of the highlights were the performances
by Executive Committee Members and Directors on stage with eye-
catching costumes representing Chinese contemporary martial-arts
fictional characters. More than 1,200 colleagues and guests enjoyed the
eventful occasion.

uring the first three quarters of 2015, approximately 10 construction
workers suffered from fatal accidents in Hong Kong's construction
industry. The fatal accident rate has decreased from 16 cases
recorded in the same period in 2014, however, the overall industrial accident
rate has increased by about 7%. The industrial accident rate shall be kept
at minimum level, or even zero, for the benefit of the physical well-being of
workers as well as the industry. The number on record does not only reflect
the cases of workers' physical injuries, it also includes lost wages, functional
impairment or death of workers, which leads to medical treatment, physical
and vocational rehabilitation, dispute resolution, claims administration and
other systematic costs.
To achieve and sustain a high level of health and safety performance;
occupiers, employers, suppliers, manufacturers, designers and persons
at work that create risks would be held accountable for eliminating or
reducing those risks. For instance, employers have the responsibility to put
in place effective safety management systems; the management should
provide adequate resources, training and power for safety personnel to
carry out their duties effectively; architects and engineers are responsible
for designing structures and buildings in construction projects that can be
built in safe method and tools; manufacturers and suppliers are responsible
for ensuring that the machines they supply or maintain are safe when in
operations. Workers have the responsibility to adhere to safe work practices
and provide feedback upon receiving safety advice. Every person at work
has to accept responsibility for his own safety and care for the others who
are affected directly or indirectly by their work.

意外中喪生。雖然意外死亡率與去年同期的
16宗相比有所下降，但整體意外率仍有近7%
升幅。為了保障工人生命安全及行業發展，意外率
應保持在最低水平，甚至是零。這些記錄並非單純
的傷亡數字，它還反映了工人失去收入、技能甚至

In April, JEC's launch of the new set of Vision Mission and Values (VMV)
inspires the employees to achieve business growth strategies in coming
years. For EHS department in JEC, we also implement the SMART
initiative for safety and precautions. We need to stay competitive and
productive by further improving our existing activities through better
coordination and collaboration. Ensuring the safety and health of our
employees is one of JEC's most important business objectives.

It is important to acknowledge from the start that this will not be at
the expense of what has been accomplished, but the areas identified
in SMART will require all our collective effort and focus to achieve
the greatest improvement.
By implementing SMART in the employees' routine activities, the
perception of health and safety will be enhanced and all of us will
have the duty to improve the working environment. It will build a
company culture of enabling each employee to think about safety
and health first, and put them into practice on a daily basis. By
cultivating the correct attitude through implementing clear policy,
established system and management's commitment, JEC is
confident that we will be able to sustain our high level of health and
safety performance and continuously improve on it.
The success of the SMART initiative depends on internal and
external stakeholders and all partners to come together and
strengthen the culture of safety in JEC workplaces. This success
cannot be achieved by individuals alone, but only through our
collective effort and strong leadership, which we are confident that
we are committed and heading in the right direction.

From a background that gave them no easy opportunities, brothers Tsang Tak
Yin ('Yin', the elder of the two) and Tsang Tak Keung ('Keung') joined JEC
in 1965 and 1974 respectively, to help provide for their family. Yin entered
JEC first, on the advice of a family member who worked in JEC's operations
department. Yin started as an apprentice in the maintenance and renovation
department, fixing window air-conditioning units in residential complexes. Keung
followed in the footsteps of his brother, working as an apprentice in JEC while
he completed his studies at Morrison Hill Technical Institute (currently IVE
(Morrison Hill)). He then joined the maintenance and renovation team, serving
commercial complexes.
Yin's early career saw him riding a motorbike all around the city, fixing air-
conditioning units for residential customers. Then in 1972, he was promoted to
be responsible for repairing window air-conditioning units at the Wong Chuk
Hang workshop.
An early highlight of Keung's JEC career, four years after joining JEC, was a
one-man mission in 1981 to the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok, to repair the
chillers in the chiller plant room. He had to diagnose the problem, and then
direct a local machinery shop to manufacture parts he needed to undertake the
repair. The accomplishment was a memorable experience that demonstrated
his ability as an independent and high-calibre technician.
The recognition he receives from senior management for his technical expertise
and industry exposure motivates and empowers Yin. He also enjoys teaching
and passing on his technical knowledge, and introducing his customer networks
to younger staff, to ensure continuity of the trusting relationships he has built
between customers and the JEC team. The great regard in which he is held
by subordinates and customers are for Yin a reflection of the strong alliance
between his team, with him as a leader, and colleagues in JEC.
初出茅廬
成長在機會不多的年代，曾德賢和曾德強兩兄弟先
後在1965及1974年加入怡和機器，以期減輕家中經
濟負擔。在任職怡和機器營運部的家人建議下，曾德
賢先加入公司的維修部當學徒，主力修理住宅的冷氣
機。而弟弟曾德強於摩利臣山工業學院（IVE摩利臣
山分校前身）畢業後亦在怡和機器當學徒，後來與哥
哥同樣加入維修部工作，負責商廈維修。
起初曾德賢的工作是騎電單車，四出上門為顧客維
修冷氣機。1972年，他獲晉升並負責在黃竹坑工場
內維修冷氣機。
要說曾德強早年生涯的亮點，莫過於加入怡和機器4
年後，於1981年隻身到泰國曼谷的文華東方酒店維
修其冷氣機房。期間他要查找故障，並指示當地某
機械店製造維修所需零件。這次成績證明了他是個
能獨立工作並且手藝高超的技術員。
齊當團隊楷模
獲管理層視為技術專家和業內楷模，為曾德賢增添工
作的動力。他亦樂意向怡和機器的年青員工傳授維修
知識和轉介顧客，這確保他在公司與顧客之間建立的

Keung likewise greatly values trust, placing it at the centre of his relationship
with his team, as he drives high levels of engagement and esprit de corps.
His management style makes space for staff to take responsibility for issues
they encounter. He provides back-up and guidance as needed, but recognises
the flexibility and effectiveness when team members can confidently and
independently tackle problems. The success of this 'alliance' has earned him
respect within the team and across the company.
Yin has established enduring relationships with the customers at the residential
units he is responsible for. One, a big household in Mid-Levels, has been
with him for more than 20 years, and he is sure to respond immediately upon
receiving their call, offering timely maintenance and repair services of the air-
conditioning units.
Meanwhile, for Keung, the day in 1999 that Typhoon York hit Hong Kong at
full T10 strength remains a memorable one. He received a call that the cooling
towers on the top floor of one of his commercial properties, in Central, had been
badly damaged. He immediately recognised that the situation had to be brought
under control without delay in order to restore an adequate air-conditioning
service after the typhoon moved past Hong Kong. So, he called his team to
gather at the job site, despite that the T10 signal was still hoisted, and set about
assessing the damage, collecting the scattered parts and sorting out which
cooling towers were still operable and which needed repair. The damage control
and assessment were swiftly managed while ensuring the safety of his staff.
Keung is justifiably proud of the dedication and professionalism of the team's
success in solving the customer's problem in highly challenging conditions.
Yin could have retired eight years ago, but has stayed on for the satisfaction he
gains from the job, the team, subordinates, his managers and customers. He
thoroughly enjoys his work conducting site visits to understand his customers'
concerns and completing each job to meet or exceed
their expectations. The pleasure he gets from
fulfilling this mission makes him more loyal to
the company every day, he says.
Keung has also continued at JEC past
retirement age because he values the
room that the company has given him
to grow over the years, promoting
him to higher levels of responsibility.
He appreciates that recognition
of his effort and contribution. The
profession is constantly evolving in
terms of technology, he notes, with
tightened regulations and certification,
and so he cheerfully recommends a
career with JEC in the maintenance and
renovation department.

曾德賢與他所服務的住宅區顧客建立起長期關係。
如他跟一位住在半山大宅的顧客相識逾廿年，每當
對方致電求助，他都會立即回應，及時提供冷氣機
維修服務。
1999年颱風約克吹襲香港，對曾德強來說印象深
刻。當時位於中環某座商廈頂層的冷卻塔因風暴嚴
重損毀，該處正是他的管轄範圍。接到商廈物業管
理人員的電話後，曾德強意識到必須立即評估損毀
情況並作相應處理，以便在風暴過後恢復商廈的冷
氣服務，因此他與團隊成員在10號風球下前赴該
處，即場評估損毀情況、清理碎片及找出需要維修
的部分。最終，損害的控制和評估工作迅速完成，
團隊成員安然無恙。這次團隊成功克服惡劣環境，
為客戶解決困難，展現出拼搏和專業，曾德強絕對
可以引以自豪。
一路信守
曾德賢早在8年前已屆退休之齡，之所以繼續留下，
只因他從工作、團隊、同事、管理層和顧客中間得
到滿足感。他尤其享受在實地巡查中了解顧客的需
要，並給出滿足甚至超過顧客期望的工作表現。曾
德賢指這種滿足感驅使他繼續為公司效力。
公司多年來的栽培、賞識、提拔和委以重任，亦是
讓曾德強願意在退休後，繼續信守怡和機器的原
因。他對公司充滿欣賞和感恩之情。曾德強又強調
科技進步、監管加強和資格收緊，使專業水平不斷
提升，故對維修部日後的工作前景充滿信心。

A
World Bank paper published in 2015 showed that 83.5% of the
workforce in Thailand is unskilled. This puts Thailand's skilled
workforce at the lowest proportion among other ASEAN countries.
And there is a gap between education and equipping students with the
skills and knowledge they need to get good jobs, so competition for skilled
workforce is intense. JEC Thailand (JECT) needs skilful employees
with both knowledge and skills of installation, testing commissioning,
maintenance as well as drawing for Mechanical Electrical (ME) systems
to fill the positions of Foreman, Draftsman and Technician. Therefore JECT
has formulated a people development strategy to have more skilled workers
in the pipeline.
The strategy focuses on Diploma students who are the future pillars of the
industry, preparing more skilled workforce for a better Thailand.
There are two parts to the strategy: short term and long term.
JECT offers internship programmes to students from technical colleges with
mechanical electrical majors. The programmes vary from 2 months to one
year, depending on their curriculum. During the programme, the students
will learn about equipment and tools used for maintenance, how to read
drawings and then perform installation and learn how to supervise the sub-
contractors. Moreover the students will learn about proper customer service
attitude.Since 2012 until now, JECT has joined up with seven technical
colleges, and provided internship experience to more than 100 students.

器設立了一套人才發展計劃以為未來培育更多熟練
工人。
這項計劃的對象乃為未來行業棟樑－文憑課程學生，
用意是培育更多熟練工人，建設更美好的泰國。
計劃分為短期和長期兩部分：
短期計劃
泰國怡和機器向主修機電工程的工業學院學生提供
各類實習項目，為期2個月至1年不等，因應學生
的課程而編排。學生於實習期間會學習使用維修設
備與工具、閱讀圖則及進行安裝，以及如何監督分
判商；此外學生亦會學習正確的客戶服務態度。自
2012年至今，泰國怡和機器已與7間工業學院合作，
為逾100位學生提供實習機會。

graduates started their employment with us, we will further enhance their professional knowledge by providing additional
training programmes including the following:

In 2013, JECT signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with 2 very
outstanding technical colleges delivering superb quality technical training
to their students, and they are Ubon Ratchathani Technical College and
Khon Kaen Technical College. The main objectives of the MOU were to
enhance the quality of education, develop students' skills and knowledge
in the area of electrical and mechanical engineering, award scholarship to
distinguished students as well as build up the corporate branding.
Starting in 2016, apart from offering internship experience and scholarships
to students, JECT will also invite professors to work in the company for
two months during school vacations. During the period, the professors will
work and provide ME training including technical drawing skills and site
operation techniques to our colleagues. This programme not only benefitted
JECT employees but is also useful for the professors to bring up-to-date
work experience back to the college to share with the students. In addition,
five very experienced JECT employees will be sent to the technical college
to assist in the teaching. For a whole semester (about four months), the
JECT employees will teach about piping, sanitary and air-conditioning
systems. They will bring hands-on experience together with the real world
technical know-hows to the college students to get them ready to join the
workforce. It is anticipated that over 250 students will benefit from this
arrangement in 2016.

兩校學生提供一流技術培訓，從而提升學院的教育
質素，增進學生的機電知識和技能，並以獎學金獎
勵優秀學生，連帶塑造公司的品牌形象。
除了向學生提供實習機會及獎學金，泰國怡和機器
今年起更會邀請兩間學院的教授於學校假期到公司
工作兩個月，藉此機會為公司員工進行機電工程培
訓，涵蓋專業繪圖技術和地盤作業技巧；這安排既
可使泰國怡和機器的員工受惠，亦好讓教授把最新
的工作經驗帶回校與學生分享。此外，公司亦會委
派5位資深員工到學院輔助教學；在為期約4個月的
學期內，這批資深員工將會於校內教授有關管道、
衞生及空調系統的知識，並以親身經驗和實際技
能，幫助學生做好投身職場的準備。上述安排料於
年內惠及逾250位學生。
憑藉這些計劃，泰國怡和機器得以培訓更多熟練工
人，既有助舒緩泰國勞動力短缺的問題，亦可藉聘
用這些訓練有素的員工支援公司的業務發展。怡

With these strategies, JECT has been able to train up more skilled labour
to help with the country's labour shortage problem yet at the same time,
able to recruit well-trained employees to support the company's growth.

標開始到簽訂商業合約，以至系統的安裝、測試和調
試，幫助新員工充分理解工作內容。
機電系統－基礎課程：提供各類機電系統的基本資料
與技術知識，包括電氣及通訊、衞生、消防、空調及
通風系統。
泰國怡和機器繪圖標準課程：課程專為繪圖員而設，
協助員工在繪製各類機電系統圖則時應用不同的
AutoCAD標準。
環境健康與安全課程：這是所有員工的必修培訓，講

與健康政策以及安全條例，確保所有員工能以健康並
安全的方式工作。
ME Work Flow – Overview: this course outlines the ME
business processes starting from tendering, commercial contracting,
installation, to testing commissioning, enabling the new employees
to understand more about their job.
ME System – Basic Course: this course provides the basic
information and technical knowledge of the various ME systems
including electrical communication, sanitary, fire protection, air-
conditioning ventilation systems.
JECT Drawing Standard Course: this course is for Draftsmen only. It
helps employees to apply the various AutoCAD drawing standards in
ME systems.
Environment Health and Safety Course: an essential training for all
employees about hazards of working in construction environment and
of engineering equipment. It covers safety and health policy, as well
as safety laws so that all our employees can perform their work in a
healthy and safe manner.

n 17th April 2016, 6 colleagues from JEC participated in “Walk
Up Jardine House 2016“ and raised funds for MINDSET,
a registered charity raising awareness and understanding
of mental health issues, as well as providing direct assistance to
individuals, families and organizations in need of help.

and achieved remarkably by running up 49 storeys in exactly 8 minutes.

n 23rd April 2016, JEC Caring Team brought a group of 15
children from the Hong Kong Children and Youth Services to
visit the Sky100, the observation deck located on the 100th
floor of International Commerce Centre (ICC) and M+Rover Traveling
Creative Studio, a mobile truck with creative arts and installations.
The caring team activity served to encourage children to appreciate
and be familiar with art, as well as an opportunity to learn more about
signature architectures in
Hong Kong during the Sky100
Academy learning session.

Cooling liquid (normally water) is introduced at the top of the quencher
where the gas begins to cool towards saturation.

Incineration or major industrial combustion processes are likely to
generate toxic fumes and air pollutants. These toxic fumes and air
pollutants are directly released into the atmosphere, adversely affecting
the living environment if they are left untreated. In order to reduce air
pollution, a water scrubber can be utilized to clean air, fuel gas or other
gases of various pollutants and dust particles.
Bionomic water scrubber system is an air pollution control device that
uses liquid to remove particles or gases from exhaust streams. The
system consists of three main components:
焚化或大型工業的燃燒工序，有可能釋出有毒煙霧及空
氣污染物，若不加處理，直接把這些物質排放到大氣
中，會對生活環境構成負面影響。要減少空氣污染，可
選擇使用清水洗滌器以淨化空氣、燃氣或其他氣體中的

Through the venturi throat, the contaminated gas and liquid are
accelerated and mixed in a high energy, extremely turbulent
environment. The gas-liquid mixture exits from the quencher are sheared
into finer droplets, which are able to capture finer particulates.

The water scrubber system features a designed throat and diverging
sections that provide high collection efficiencies at reduced pressure
drops. It is ideal for sticky or scaling dusts. Entrainment separator
vessels with secondary gas treatment and cooling options are available
for different type of scrubbers which are in a full range of sizes to handle
gas capacities from 0.236 to 217m3
/sec and remove down to 0.2 micron.
In the Fire and Ambulance Services Academy located at Tseung Kwan
O (Photo1), huge amount of smoke were released during fire simulator
training of the Academy. JEC supplied three sets of Bionomic water
scrubber system to the Architectural Services Department of HKSAR for
smoke treatment in order to minimize the impact of air pollutants on the
surrounding environment.
水劑滌氣系統備有特別設計的通道及分流部件，不但效
率高，也能減少壓降，適合處理黏性或大規模微粒。分
離器可配合冷卻功能，不同款式和體積的洗滌器，能對
氣體作二級處理，可處理的氣體每秒介乎0.236至217
立方米，去除顆粒小至0.2微米。
在將軍澳的消防及救護學院裏（圖一），消防員每天參
與模擬火災訓練時，大量濃煙會從訓練學院大樓排出室
外。怡和機器已向香港建築署供應了三組水劑滌氣系統
以處理煙霧，並減少空氣污染物對周邊環境的影響。
