What is Jawahar Rozgar Yojana?
Jawahar Rozgar Yojana was started on 1 April 1989 by the Central Government under the
Seventh Five Year Plan by combining the National Rural Employment Program (NREP-
National Rural Employment Program) and the Rural Landless Employment Program
(RLEGP- Rural Landless Employment Guarantee Program). to be done. This is India's

amount is borne by the Central Government and 20% by the State Government.
Changes in Jawahar Rozgar Yojana
Over time, many changes were made by the central government in the Jawahar Rozgar
Yojana. In the year 1993-94, many other goals were added to this scheme. By increasing the
amount of its budget, it was divided into 3 streams- First Stream, Second Stream and Third
Stream.
Jawahar Rojgar Yojana 3 Stream
Under the first stream, simple tasks were added along with two sub-schemes Indira Awas
Yojana and Million Wells Yojana were started under it. A total of 75% allocation was
made for this stream. The allocation amount of Indira Awas Yojana was increased from
9% to 10%, while the Million Wells Yojana was increased from 20% to 30%.
There was 20% allocation for second stream and it was implemented in 120 backward
districts.
5% allocation was done in the third stream. Under this, progressive programs were
started, which included programs like prevention of labor migration, drought-proof
watershed etc.
Jawahar Gram Samridhi Yojana was replaced by Jawahar Gram Samridhi Yojana on 1st
April 1999.
On 25 September 2001, Jawahar Gram Samridhi Yojana was linked to the Sampoorna
Gramin Rozgar Yojana.
Objective of Jawahar Rozgar Yojana (JRY)
Jawahar Rozgar Yojana 3) was started with the main objective of providing 90 to 100 days
employment to the people living in rural and most backward areas. The scheme is the largest
work-generating scheme in the country, which was implemented at the village level. With
this, efforts were made to lift the poor living in rural areas above the poverty line. Under this,
efforts were made to provide employment to every person by covering every village through
Panchayati Raj institutions, so that every person can make his family happy. Also
