ake Owen has come a long way since releasing his
debut studio album STARTIN’ WITH ME in 2006,
producing three top 20 singles on the Billboard Hot
Country Songs chart. It wasn’t until 2011 however
that Owen achieved his first number one hit on the country charts
with the title track of his third studio album, Barefoot Blue Jean Night.
Since then Owen has gone on to achieve another four number
one singles on US country charts, his last one Beachin coming
from his fourth studio album DAYS OF GOLD. That was two years
ago now and a lot has happened to Jake since then.
Unfortunately, while Jake was going through a painful divorce his
father was diagnosed with cancer, he simply explains it as
“experiencing the unexpected.”
Now Jake is back and better than ever with his new album
AMERICAN LOVE, and rather than focusing on the recent turmoil
in his life the album is full of fun and catchy country pop. “While
making this album I had a label president leave and a new one
come in, I got a divorce and had a lot of other things happen in
my life."
“I don’t know if it was soul searching, it was just trying to make
creativity happen during a time where you are not really feeling
so creative. It took me some time to kind of get my mind wrapped
around everything that’s happened and then come back and be
wholly into something like this.”
Jake has become a beacon of positive vibes through his
uplifting lyrics and melodies, optimism, love of the beach and his
youthful spontaneity although this album isn’t that different from
his previous work. “I wouldn’t say that it is so different other than
the fact that the sentiment may be a little different in some songs,
but I really think that as an artist you try to create what you have
created before but just in a different way. There are some newer
flavours to my album but I still feel like people are able to get what
they are used to from me on this record.”
Jake has almost two million followers on Twitter and loves
interacting with his fans, often replying to his messages and
offering up tickets to his shows or even the chance to meet him
and sign his now famous VW van. “I use all kinds of social media
to interact with my fans, I think it is really important. I am a fan of
music, there would be nothing greater than someone that I am a
fan of reaching out to me personally and saying thank you. Just
giving fans something that makes their day, I like doing that for
people.”
Jake has toured the US with several other country artists,
including the likes of Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Little Big Town,
Keith Urban and Jason Aldean. He is currently touring his new
album across the US and says that he loves it when his music
makes people smile. “If they take away a smile and a good time
and tell their friends about it, that is the main goal. I believe you
should make music that people want to tell their friends about,
that they want to share.”
“I am just really excited that this album is coming out, it has
taken me a lot of time and I am really proud of it. I don’t think I
have ever been more proud of an album before, I just hope
everybody enjoys it.”
There is no doubt that Jake has been through the mill these
past few years, but his new album is full of upbeat fun songs that
remind you why you love country music in the first place.
AMERICAN LOVE puts Jake firmly back at the forefront of real
American country music and he deserves every success.
