Government  Japan’s government is a “constitutional monarchy” There is a Japanese emperor but his power is very limited. Power is held mainly by the prime minister of Japan The prime minister is elected by the emperor after being nominated by the house of representatives The government consists of a house of representatives containing 480 seats. Much like the US.

GEOGRAPHY Japan consists of a total of 6,852 island running down the coast of Asia. Its main islands are, Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikou, and Kyushu About 73% of Japan is forested, mountainous, and uninhabitable for agricultural, industrial, or residential use  Japan is located directly on the ring of fire. Resulting in frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions
climate The climate of Japan is usually stable throughout the year, but there can be key changes from north to south. The average temperature for Japan during winter is 41 degrees f. During summer the temp. is about 77 degrees The highest temp. ever recorded in Japan was 105 degrees.
ENVIORMENT After the end of World War II, Japan experienced an industrial boom. As a result, widespread pollution Several environment protection laws were put in place in 1970. Main problems include urban air pollution, waste management, water eutrophication, nature conservation, and chemical management
MILITARY Japan has one of the largest military budget in  the world Japan contributed non-combatant troops to the Iraq war but withdrew Japan military provided naval and air support during the last days of the Iraq war. This was Japan’s first military activity overseas since WW2
ECONOMY Japan has the third largest economy in the world Japan uses “yen” as currency 1 US dollar is equal to about 81.6200 yen Japan has an unemployment rate of 4% Japan’s main exports are  machinery, chemicals, fossil fuels, raw materials and other stuff
technology Japan is the leader in technology and science Japan leads in fundamental science research  Japan has the third largest budget for science and technology research.
CRISIS IN JAPAN On march 11, 2011 an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.9 struck Japan Over 10,000 dead Tsunami 10m high was triggered Earthquake caused nuclear meltdown. Threat level 7. highest nuclear threat level since Cherybole
