This document announces a pre-summit workshop on assessing secondary traumatic stress in organizations and creating resiliency plans. The workshop will provide attendees with a self-assessment tool to evaluate their organization's practices in protecting workers from indirect trauma exposure. Attendees will then use the results to develop a blueprint for enhancing resiliency in their workforce. The workshop aims to describe the impact of indirect trauma exposure on workers and identify risk and protective factors. ABSTRACT: Trauma-Informed Practice includes workplace wellness strategies to reduce the
risk of Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS), Compassion Fatigue, Burnout, and Vicarious
Trauma. This presentation describes a STS-Informed Self- Assessment tool for organizations
created by experts in STS and members of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network’s STS
Committee. This self-assessment provides a diagnostic picture of an organization’s strengths
and weakness at protecting workers from direct and indirect trauma exposure, and was
designed to provide a blueprint for training and organizational change. This workshop will
provide attendees with a hands on opportunity to assess the degree to which their organization
utilizes STS-informed practices, and create a blueprint for enhancing resiliency in the
workforce.
OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to:
-Describe the impact of indirect exposure on the workforce, including risk and protective
factors
-Use the STS-informed Organizational Assessment to evaluate their organization’s progress
toward protecting workers and enhancing resiliency in the workforce
2. -Develop a plan for enhancing resiliency in professionals exposed to indirect trauma
