Iuliu Maniu was a Romanian politician who served as Prime Minister of Romania for three terms between 1928-1933. He was born in 1873 in what is now Romania to an ethnic Romanian family in the Austrian-Hungary empire. Maniu studied law and received his doctorate in 1896. He joined the Romanian National Party of Transylvania and Banat in 1897 and represented them in the Budapest Parliament. Maniu co-founded the National Peasants' Party and fought for Romanian national interests before and after World War I.
