This document discusses redefining design problems. It begins by noting that traditional "problems" involve doubt, uncertainty or difficulty, whereas design problems represent opportunities for positive change. The author argues that problems should be viewed as "spaces for change from the real to the ideal." Different types of problems are discussed, including closed problems with single answers, open-ended problems with multiple solutions, complex corporate problems, and "wicked" global problems. The document provides examples and encourages viewing all information as "data" to generate insights and identify opportunities when tackling complex problems. It emphasizes the need to cluster data into themes in order to articulate design problems that suggest related opportunities for change.

Businesses routinely attempt to accomplish too much and quickly lose focus when the next fire erupts or a new "shiny ornament" appears.
Strategy Deployment (also known as hoshin kanri and policy deployment) is a highly effective means for prioritizing and maintaining focus on the projects and improvement activities that lead to outstanding business performance. But many organizations need to build fundamental skills before they're ready to fully utilize strategy deployment as it was intended.
In this webinar, you'll learn how to build fundamental skills by:
• Prioritizing the laundry list of what you COULD focus on as an organization and create a "must do, can't fail" list of what you WILL focus on.
• Gaining organization-wide alignment, the key to successful plan execution.
• Managing the plan to keep distractions at bay and generate the level of results all organizations are capable of.
In short, you'll learn how to accomplish meaningful improvement in a way that aligns rather than divides, and puts improvement in its rightful place as an integral part of achieving overarching business goals.
The document is a slide deck presentation on patterns for successful collaborations. It discusses establishing trust within teams through matching team member skills and needs, providing feedback, and establishing working agreements. The overall message is that successful collaboration relies on open communication of skills, needs, and feedback between team members.
"Serious Games for Leader and Team Training" By Jim Lunsford- Serious Play C...SeriousGamesAssoc
Jim Lunsford speaks about "Serious Games for Leader and Team Training" at the 2012 Serious Play Conference
ABSTRACT:
Leadership, like most individual skills, is a combination of art and science. Although the best process to develop strong, adaptive, leaders is a repetitive cycle of selected study, constant practice, and quality reflection, traditional leader education and training relies almost solely on the instruction of science. Carefully designed and developed serious games provide the means for leaders, of all experience levels, to practice key cognitive skills in a dynamic and sometimes stressful environment. When individual reflection is facilitated by an expert coach, the ability of the leaders to better understand the consequences of their actions and why they occurred improves significantly. This process enables leaders to experience the art as well as the science of leadership in the classroom before practicing it for the first time within an organization.

The document provides tips for nonprofit organizations to effectively manage internship programs, including recruiting, mentoring, and evaluating interns. It recommends identifying organization needs and creating job descriptions. When recruiting, organizations should reach out to universities, faculty, career centers, and former interns. When managing interns, expectations and goals should be clearly defined and regular feedback provided. Evaluations should focus on behaviors and results in addition to traits. Fine-tuning tools can help ensure appropriate emphasis.
