LEARNING TO LOVE
FULL STACK DEVELOPMENT
IT’S NOT JUST A PHASE
HELLO!
I’M A
FULL STACK DEVELOPER
“YOU LIKE BOTH NOW, BUT
YOU’LL HAVE TO PICK ONE
EVENTUALLY.”
Some instructor or mentor probably
“OKAY BUT WHICH ONE DO
YOU *REALLY* LIKE”
A friend
“IT'S JUST A PHASE, YOU'LL
GROW OUT OF IT AFTER YOU
GET SOME EXPERIENCE.”
Someone older than you
- @thekitze on twitter
TFW YOU’RE FULL STACK
FOR MY
FRONTEND PEEPS
UH, THE BACKEND
IS BEING SLOW I
GUESS?
-Frontend dev after a user
complains about slow load
times.
DON’T BE THAT PERSON
▸ While doing frontend development it is vital to understand
how the data your users are interacting with is shaped and
processed.
▸ Empowered with server side code knowledge a frontend
dev can identify bottlenecks and address them
immediately instead of waiting for another dev to become
aware of and understand the bug.
FOR MY
BACKEND PEEPS
WELL AT LEAST I
GAVE YOU AN
ERROR MESSAGE.
-Backend dev after a user
keeps getting a confusing
error message when
submitting a form.
DON’T BE THAT PERSON
▸ While doing backend development it’s important to
optimize processing and serving that data for the end user.
▸ Thinking of how your processed data is consumed allows
APIs, data models, and database queries to be designed
with the end user in mind. Shaping your data in a way that
is performant and easily consumable should always be
your goal.
WHY YOU SHOULD WANT TO BE A FULL STACK DEVELOPER
▸ It’s never boring.
▸ The opportunities are limitless.
▸ It’s empowering knowing that you are efficient and
productive in multiple languages and workflows.
Knowledge is power after all!
“A FULL-STACK DEVELOPER
HAS ALL THE KEYS TO THE
HOUSE, THERE IS NO DOOR
THAT YOU CANNOT OPEN.”
