INTRODUCTION
What is family?
 family is a institution consists of father, mother and children.
However family can be expanded to include in laws, grandparent and
other relatives.
WHAT IS FAMILY MANAGEMENT?
Family management, by definition, takes place in the context of a family
organization. Families, if effective social agents, fulfil the sociogenic and
biogenic needs of their members by performing instrumental functions and
expressive functions.
BASIC IN FAMILY MANAGEMENT
 Communication
•It is important to talk through family issues with all family members,
including children
•Affection, positive attention and family time
- Everyone in the family need to feel loved and valued. Make sure your
children and your partner – receive lots of encouragement, positive
feedback and signs of affection. Its also important to make time every week
to do things as a family – even a short walk or a visit to the park can help
 Routines
•Consider your daily routines and figure out what system works best
for all members of the family. Routines make children feel safe and
secure, and can make the busy time of day less stressful for everyone
•Ex. Getting dresses for school, having a bath, setting the table and
washing the dishes with your children will give you the chance to
have a chat at the same time.
•Islamic way: Through ritual (unique or special event for family),
reading sirah bedtime stories, playing games or going camping
during school holidays. This help in strengthen your family’s values
and help pass these values on to your children.
 Preferred reactions
•Talk about how you would like everyone to respond to difficult or
challenging situations like tiredness, an upset child or financial
pressures.
 Finances
•Ask your employer to deposit your money into two accounts, one that
you use for household and child expenses, and another for everyday cash
spending. Setting a realistic budget by creating plan for managing your
money, can reduce debts.
ISSUE 1: GLOBALISATION
 Globalisation is the process of international integration arising fr
om the interchange of world views, product, ideas and other aspec
ts of cultures.
 Technologies such as gadgets, internet and social media drive c
hildren away
from parent.
- For example , during dinner or family gathering sometimes ever
ybody are busy with their smartphone instead of spending times w
ith family members.
 social media become one tool for the partner to cheat on each ot
her.
- for example , mother or father spend their time a lot on social m
edia compared with their partner.
ISSUE IN FAMILY MANAGEMENT
Issue 2: Polygamy
Definition: A man who married more than one women (either two,
three or four)
Hukum: Sunnah, Harus
Syeikh Mustafa Al-Adawiy in Kitab Ahkamun Nikah Waz Zafaf
A) Adil (Judge)
Hadith Rasulullah SAW, said “Siapa saja orang yang memiliki 2 isteri,
lalu lebih cenderung kepada salah satunya, pada hari kiamat kelak ia
akan datang dalam keadaan sebagian tubuhnya miring”
(HR. Abu Dawud, An-Nasa-I, At-Tirmidzi)
Allah has mentioned in the Quran, “And if you fear that you cannot
act equitably toward orphan than marry such women as seem good to
you, two, and three, and four; but if you fear that you will not do
justice between them, than (marry) only one or what your right hands
possess; this is more proper, that you may not deviate from the right
B) Taqwa
Taqwa of the husband should be increased. Worshipping Allah with
full of hard. But, if it is not like that, it will be a fitnah to him, and he
is not qualified to have more than one wife.
Allah has mentioned in the Quran, “ O, you who believe! Surely from
among your wifes and your children there is an enemy to you;
therefore beware of them; and if you pardon and forbear and forgive,
there surely Allah id Fogiving Merciful” (Surah At-Taghabun, verse 14)
C) Afford (to take care, to give nafkah)
Take a good care of her religion, and dignity. Guide her to the
straight path. Give enough nafkah, in term of sociogenic and biogenic
needs.
Rasulullah SAW said in a Hadith, “… Wahai para pemuda, siapa saja di
Antara kalian yang memiliki kemampuan untuk menikah, maka
menikahlah…” (HR. Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
Allah mentioned in the Quran, “And let those who do not find the
means to marry, keep chaste until Allah makes them free from what
out of His Grace. And (as for) those who ask for a writing from among
those whom your right hands possess, give them the right thing if
you know any good in them, and give them the wealth of Allah which
He has given you; and do not compel your slave girls to prostitution
when, they desire to keep chaste, in order
Issue 3: Financial Management of Family
Economy is number ONE.
Money is not everything, BUT everything needs money.

Wife has higher economic status than husband (eg: Saad bin Abi
Waqqas)
Current economy problem, bankcrupcy
Being stay at home mom (housewife)
ISSUE 4: WORKAHOLIC PARENTS
Flexibility of middle class family and gained
economic security
- they still have time for kids, yet some earn
part-time income better. Eg: doing online
