1) The study analyzed cross-ideological and cross-hierarchical interactions on Twitter around three polarized conflicts - the Israel-Palestine conflict, US political parties, and FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid.
2) It found that while most interactions were within ideological groups, cross-ideological mentions were more common among higher status users. Lower status users were more likely to interact within their own group.
3) However, participation in cross-ideological discussions was generally equal across hierarchical groups, with the exception of the bottom 30% of users. The majority of cross-ideological arguments were disagreements but insults were relatively rare.
