Since 300 BC, traditional
bookstores have always
played a pivotal role in
book publishing in general

But, the ongoing digital revolution is
having a major impact on the book
publishing business. In 2012, physical
book retailer suffered the biggest
market share decline from 28.7% to
18.7% of book purchases as the
online channel grew. And today, e-book
sales amount increase to around 20%
of the overall revenue of US trade
publishers.

than almost anyone expected
as PwC projected that the growth of its revenue will continue until 2020
E-books are indeed predicted growing at the expense of print
but it will only account for a small proportion of total revenue
Digital continues to be an important part of the industry due to its
practicality but it can’t replace cognitive elements that printed books bring
Researchers at James Madison University
suspect that grokking the content of eBooks
takes longer times and more effort than
reading the content of printed book.

A study at Ryerson University noted that
readers felt they had to remember to search
for the electronic sticky note in contrast to the
easily observable paper sticky notes.
Study from tech-centric Hewlett-Packard found
that those in college who had tried both types of
print book and eTextbook had strong preference
for printed books.
