Publishers need a standardized way to express content rights in a machine-readable format. RightsML is being developed as an IPTC standard to address this need. It is based on the Open Digital Rights Language and allows publishers to automatically apply permissions, restrictions, and duties to content. The RightsML working group is currently in an experimental phase where publishers can try implementing RightsML and provide feedback to help improve the standard.
