Gene therapy involves delivering genes into cells using vectors like viruses to treat genetic defects. Somatic gene therapy temporarily alters the genes in specific cells of the body but not reproductive cells, so the changes are not inherited. Germline gene therapy modifies sperm, eggs or embryos so changes are inherited, but this raises ethical issues. Xenotransplantation transplants animal organs like pig hearts into humans but organs are rejected, so gene therapy modifies pigs' organs to reduce rejection.
This document discusses biotechnology and genetic engineering. It provides examples of how biotechnology is used in forensics, agriculture, and genetic engineering. Genetic engineering involves transferring genes between organisms, such as placing human genes in bacteria. The document also discusses applications of genetic engineering like creating pest-resistant and herbicide-resistant crops through biotechnology techniques.
Biotechnology and genetic engineering involve manipulating organisms or their genes. Key techniques include classical biotechnology methods like selection and hybridization, as well as molecular biotechnology techniques like gene transfer and recombinant DNA technology. Some applications of biotechnology include producing therapeutic proteins by inserting genes into bacteria, DNA fingerprinting to identify individuals, and gene therapy to treat genetic disorders. However, genetic engineering is also controversial due to potential dangers and its opposition in some parts of the world.
This document discusses the history and process of genetic engineering. It begins by defining genetic engineering as any process that changes genetic material to produce new substances or functions. It then provides background on the discovery of DNA and genes in the 1950s. The document goes on to explain that genetic engineering involves combining DNA from different organisms to create recombinant DNA that can function in a host cell. It describes key techniques and tools used in genetic engineering like vectors, host cells, and enzymes. The document summarizes several important applications of genetic engineering like producing insulin, growth hormones, and treating diseases. It also discusses approaches for gene therapy and the first gene therapy treatment. Finally, the document outlines both potential benefits and ethical concerns of genetic engineering.
Genetic engineering alters the genes of organisms to produce beneficial effects for humans. It has improved crop yields and introduced traits like disease resistance. Scientists have genetically engineered microorganisms to help clean pollution from soil and water. While genetic engineering provides benefits, there are also risks like unintentionally creating allergenic foods or plants becoming invasive "superweeds". However, regulations aim to minimize these risks and the technology could help nutrition and public health when used carefully.
A gene is the fundamental physical and functional unit of heredity that is responsible for an organism's physical and inheritable characteristics. Genetic engineering involves manipulating or altering the structure of genes to create desired traits in an organism. If genetic material from another species is added, the resulting organism is called transgenic. Genetic engineering can also remove genetic material, creating a knock out organism.

Protocol for youngsters to carry out a bacterial transformation in a lab. The protocol follows a line of biomedical research which focuses on the study of a potential therapeutic target that could be recognised by a drug against atherosclerosis. The experiment protocol is an opportunity for science centres, museums and schools to replicate a real experiment done in a real lab doing research on drug discovery.
Metoda biorezonansowa to świetny wynalazek medycyny, który jest bardzo popularny na świecie. Jest to metoda szybka i bezpieczna, dlatego warto by i w Polsce zyskała popularność.

2. Inżynieria genetyczna- co to
takiego???
• Inżynieria genetyczna określana jest jako postępowanie
zmierzające do przekształcania informacji genetycznej
poprzez stosowanie różnych technologii. Inżynieria
genetyczna polega zatem na wprowadzaniu do komórek
organizmu, którego cechy chcemy zmienić (biorcy),
określonego odcinka DNA innego organizmu (dawcy).
Rozwój technologii skutecznej rekombinacji DNA nastąpił
w latach siedemdziesiątych XX wieku i dał on początek
zupełnie nowemu podejściu do rozwiązania problemów
badawczych w zakresie biologii jak i wielu osiągnięć.
Konsekwencją tych osiągnięć jest ogromny postęp w
takich dziedzinach, jak farmaceutyka, medycyna i
genetyka człowieka oraz rolnictwo.
3. Zastosowanie inżynierii genetycznej
• produkcja leków i szczepionek
• diagnostyka i leczenie chorób
genetycznych i przewlekłych
• testy na obecność wirusa HIV
• zapłodnienie in vitro
• możliwość określenia genomu
ludzkiego
• możliwość rozpoczęcia terapii genowej
4. Farmaceutyka
Inżynieria genetyczna jest
bardzo szeroko
wykorzystywana do
produkcji leków i innych
substancji leczniczych, m.in.
insuliny, czynnika
krzepnięcia krwi,
hormonu wzrostu,
substancji antywirusowych i
antybiotyków. Zwykle
organizmami
produkującymi leki są
bakterie. Takie leki i
szczepionki nie powodują
skutków ubocznych
6. Terapia genowa
• W medycynie szczególną
uwagę zwraca tzw. terapia
genowa. Dotyczy ona leczenia
chorób genetycznych, do tej
pory nieuleczalnych. Polega na
wprowadzaniu do komórki
pobranej od chorego genu
działającego prawidłowo. Ten
prawidłowy gen niweluje
działanie genu uszkodzonego,
odpowiedzialnego za chorobę.
Można też wprowadzać geny
do narządów pacjenta za
pośrednictwem wektorów
wirusowych. Metodą terapii
genowej można leczyć takie
choroby ja białaczka czy
hemofilia oraz wiele innych.
7. Badania prenatalne

uwagę zwraca tzw. terapia

8. Przeszczepy
• Narządy pobierane do przeszczepu muszę
zostać pobrane w bardzo krótkim czasie
od zgonu dawcy, ponadto przed śmiercią
musi on wyrazić na to zgodę. Istnieje
możliwość zmiany genomu świni a
następnie klonowania świń o
odpowiednio zmienionych genomach są
interesujące. Zmiany genetyczne miałaby
służyć temu ,by przeszczep nie był
odrzucany przez ludzki organizm.
9. Produkcja hormonów
• Produkcja hormonów to synteza różnych białek, w
tym hormonów przez inne organizmy, w dużych
ilościach i czystych pod względem chemicznym i
biologicznym. Wcześniej takie hormony można było
pobrać tylko od organizmów zwierzęcych lub
człowieka, ale niejednokrotnie bywały one
zanieczyszczone wirusami, czy nie do końca
odpowiadały pod względem chemicznym hormonom
człowieka (w przypadku pobrania od zwierząt).
10. Diagnostyka genetyczna
• Identyfikacja genów w DNA ,które odpowiadają
za różne geny. Szczególne znaczenie ma to w
przypadku chorób nowotworowych, ponieważ
wczesne ich wykrycie może uratować życie
człowieka. Takie badania prowadzi się także u
noworodków, celem zidentyfikowania groźnych
chorób prowadzących do zaburzeń rozwojowych,
a w efekcie do upośledzenia i śmierci
