PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT
• Theinvigilator is the person in the examination room
responsible for the conduct of a particular
examination session in the presence of the
candidates. Invigilators must give their whole
attention to the proper conduct of the examination
and must not perform any additional task.

EXAM ROOM SETUP
• Before the exam starts you need to check:
• The exam room layout – desk spacing
• Exam Signage – what signs and where?
• Candidate desk cards
• Clocks
• Room notice board – what to display

EXAMINATION DAY
PRIOR TOEXAM 1
Report to Exams office 30 minutes prior to start time
Collect exam pack and proceed to exam room
immediately
Report to the senior invigilator
Check room layout, display clock and hang
Notice to Candidates, Quiet Please, Mobile Phones

EXAMINATION DAY
PRIOR TOEXAM 2
Lay out candidate desk cards in order for students to
find their desks
Prepare whiteboard with exam details
15 minutes before start time, allow students to enter
Bags and coats must be left at front or back of room
Mobile phones MUST be switched off and NOT on
their person

EXAMINATION DAY
PRIOR TOEXAM 3
Seat students and check they are at the correct desk
Ensure ID cards are displayed on desks
Invigilator to read out invigilator announcement
Candidates are then under Examination Conditions

EXAMINATION DAY
PRIOR TOEXAM 4
Hand out question papers face up
Ensure that any erratum notices are brought
to the attention of candidates
Get candidates to complete front page details
and read through rubric
Inform students of finish time and extra time
Commence exam on time

DURING EXAM
• Completeattendance register and seating plan
• Ensure vigilance throughout exam. Patrol the room.
DO NOT stand talking.
• Hand out any extra paper and treasury tags as
required
• Candidates may not leave until the schedule time is
up
• Remind students at 30 minutes to go and again with
5 minutes to go
10.
END OF EXAM
•Stop candidates at exact finish time. Instruct
extra time candidates to continue
• Collect question papers/answer booklets
before allowing candidates to leave
• No question papers/answer booklets to leave
room with candidate
• Dismiss candidates in an orderly manner
• Arrange answer booklets into attendance
register order

POST EXAM
• Removenotices, clock and return
immediately with question papers and answer
booklets to Exams.
• All Exam material should be treated securely
at all times – THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!!
12.
SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS
• Somestudents may be granted access
arrangements by the awarding body
• Examples are - extra time, reader, scribe, use
of laptop
• Invigilator informed prior to exam
• Extra time students may be scheduled to
‘carry on’ after other students have finished

READERS and SCRIBES
•Some students may be entitled to a reader and/or
scribe. This often comes with 25% extra time
allocated to the student.
• You will be given a memory aid card for you and the
candidate to show exactly what you are allowed to
do.
• You are there to help the candidate with their
reading and writing and NOTHING ELSE
• You MUST NOT give the candidate any extra help

MALPRACTICE
• If youfind a student using unauthorised material or
breaking regulations, the offending material must be
removed AT ONCE.
• The student MUST be allowed to complete their
exam in the normal way.
• At the end of the exam, warn the candidate that the
incident will be reported to the awarding body and
their result may be disqualified.
• Inform the exams office immediately afterwards.
• The final decision lies with the Awarding Body.
15.
VIGILANCE
• It isimportant to be vigilant at all times. This
means being aware of what the candidates are
doing. You must keep watch for students using
mobile phones, headphones and unauthorised
material. In some exams calculators are not
permitted whilst in others reference materials
may be consulted.
• It will state what materials are allowed. If any
doubts contact exams.
16.
SUMMONING HELP
• ATLEAST one invigilator should be present at
all times. If extra help is required one of the
invigilators may come to the exams office with
the query.
• If this is not possible you may use your mobile
phone to summon assistance – the contact
numbers will be in your invigilation pack.
17.
POSSIBLE PROBLEMS
• Noisedisruption
• Candidates who don’t know their candidate number
• Toilet breaks
• Illness
• Mobile phones
• Late candidates
• Disruptive students
• Calculators/dictionaries
• Candidates who don’t have their ID cards

EVACUATION PROCEDURES
In theevent of an emergency (fire alarm or bomb alert) invigilators should;
1. Stop candidates from writing
2. Collect the attendance register and evacuate the room in silence
following emergency signs
3. All scripts and exam papers MUST be left in the room. No bags to be
taken out.
4. Supervise candidates as closely as possible to avoid discussions and note
the time of the interruption and how long it lasts
5. When allowed back candidates MUST be given the full working time
remaining.
6. Report action taken to the exams officer who will submit a full report to
the relevant awarding body

VISIT FROM EXAMBOARD INSPECTOR
• Unannounced
• Unscheduled
• May request to sit in any exam at any time
• Ensure all rules and regulations are followed
to ensure continued centre accreditation with
awarding body!!
