Temporary Protected Status (TPS) allows immigrants from countries in turmoil to live and work temporarily in the United States. This slide share presentation covers the latest filing deadlines, registration dates, and fees as of October 2016. The turmoil facing immigrants from TPS designated nations may be due to a huge national disaster, a major civil war, or other severe conditions. When the home country’s conditions improve, the right to stay in the U.S. ends. At present, there are 13 designated nations: El Salvador, Guinea, Haiti, Honduras, Liberia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. On September 22, 2016, The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the decision to terminate TPS benefits for Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. The widespread transmission of the Ebola Virus that led to their Temporary Protected Status is now under sufficient control, allowing immigrants from these nations to return in safety. Their TPS designation will expire on May 21, 2017. Various countries have applied for TPS designation and still await a final decision: Pakistan, the Philippines, and Guatemala. In addition, a strong case can be made for Venezuela. Clinical pathology is a subspecialty of pathology that deals with the use of laboratory methods (clinical chemistry, microbiology, hematology and emerging subspecialties such as molecular diagnostics) for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Hematology studies the blood and blood-forming tissues to evaluate presence of disease and assist in therapeutic interventions as clinically indicated. Clinical chemistry (also known as chemical pathology and clinical biochemistry) is the area of clinical pathology that is generally concerned with analysis of bodily fluids. Some of the objectives of this manual are to identify the most important hematological and functional pathological tests of vet importance, to diagnose different animal diseases by confirming the pathological causes that constraint livestock production and to have knowledge more about clinical pathology. Part one discusses about hematology which includes equipment’s and reagents, blood collection sites and procedures, preparation method for working solution, staining methods (staining procedures), hemoglobin determination, hematocrit determination (PCV), total RBC count, total WBC count, differential leukocyte count, determination of ESR, coagulation time determination, bleeding time, calculating red blood cell indices and blood group and Rh factor determination. Part two deals with function tests which includes determination of Aspartate Amino Trasferase (AST) and Glutamic OxalacetateTransminase (GOT), determination of Alkaline Phosphtase (ALP), determination of creatinine, total protein determination, urea determination, total and direct bilirubin determination, enzymatic kinetic colorimeter test, liver function test, kidney function test, rumen function test and pancreatic function test. In general, the outline of this laboratory manual deals with the basic hematological procedures and clinical chemistry analysis.

Advocacy Advocacy Program Transcript [MUSIC PLAYING] NARRATOR: Advocacy and change are closely intertwined. In this video program, Dr. Judy Lewis defines advocacy and explains the roles of counselors advocating for change. Dr. Lewis also describes barriers counselors may face as they advocate for change, and how to overcome these barriers. DR. JUDY LEWIS: At its most basic, advocacy is simply the act of speaking up on behalf of someone else-- maybe speaking up for someone who is voiceless or powerless. When it comes to the counseling profession, advocacy is particularly important for two reasons. One is that part of our process of working with clients is to help them gain the strength and the skills so they can advocate on their own behalf. The other part of it is that once we realize that the client might not have the power to be able to speak up on his or her own behalf, sometimes we may have to be the ones that speak up on behalf of the clients. This happens especially when we see a lot of different clients all having similar problems, and we realize that there is a systemic reason for it. There is something in the community environment that is standing between these clients and what they need. So as counselors, when we're oriented toward advocacy, what we are doing is changing the lens through which we see the client. Instead of looking through a microscope at the individual client, we're looking through a wide-angle lens. So that we're seeing the context of what's happening in the client's life. When counselors carry out advocacy, they do this at several different levels. One level is the level of working with the individual client or family. When you're working with an individual client, you have two alternatives. One is to work in an empowering way with the individual so that he or she learns to advocate for himself or herself. The other possibility-- when that doesn't provide all the answers-- the other possibility is to do advocacy on behalf of that individual. When we're working with the clients in an empowering way, what we're helping them see is the degree to which some of the problems that they're having may not be totally their fault. When people start feeling as though they're so much at fault, sometimes they just get stuck and can't seem to move beyond their current situation. If they can begin to see for themselves what some of the barriers are that are preventing them from getting to where they want to go, and where sometimes they're not © 2016 Laureate Education, Inc. 1 Advocacy completely at fault-- they're not completely guilty-- we can start to teach them some of the skills that they need. Scenario is a serious speculative game for design teams to imagine plausible scenarios starting from the emotional state of a user and to exercise the ability to facilitate environments by reducing barriers.

This presentation talks about great skills and or careers that, though very rewarding and solid, get little respect. If a person succeeds, no matter how they do it, some respect should be given. Who Am I….I am a hardworking guy who, like many others, found himself out of work during the economic downturn in 2010. After a long battle of wrong turns, job search strategies that led to no where, and dead end leads, I decided to take a more strategic approach to my job search. Like anything else in life, I needed to treat my search like a full-time job and create a plan that would allow me to stand out above the competition. This came in especially handy as I was in transition again in 2017. Basically, I just used the tips that I have shared with others and was out of work a total of ZERO days. Yes, I got a job offer the day after my last day at my previous job. Let me show you how I did it so you too can have a quicker landing than you would have had without my tips. Why Am I Sharing What Helped Me…because I quickly realized that to handle an event like that is to focus on what you can control and share the experience to help others. I believe that an experience not shared is a lost opportunity in life, and that smart people learn from their mistakes and smarter people learn from other people’s experiences. Plus, I told myself that once I figured this out I would share it with others so that they too could navigate the world of unemployment. In these chapters, I show you how I did it so that you will have the confidence to make it through the process. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error. Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials. This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction. This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
