Unlike the rational man, humans sometimes are irrational and predictably err. The document discusses several cognitive biases and errors in human intuition that cause irrational decision-making. It then explains how nudges can influence behavior by exploiting these predictable irrational tendencies, while preserving freedom of choice. Specific examples are provided of nudges that could be applied in IT service management to help practitioners make better decisions.

Spend now or save for later?
Pay off existing bills or increase retirement savings?
Focus savings dollars on short term or long term goals?
A true financial plan does not focus one aspect or product, but instead seeks to take all areas of planning into consideration when making financial decisions.

As scout for the Exponential Creativity Fund at Fractured Atlas, I’m in the unique position of finding arts entrepreneurs to pitch to our impact investment fund, helping them prepare, and participating in the pitch sessions.
A strong pitch deck is an essential tool for those seeking investment. It facilitates informed and juicy dialogue around what really matters, and it empowers a potential investor to do the following:
Research your company before meeting with you in real time
Follow along during your pitch
Introduce you to others within their network by sharing your pitch deck
While most of the founders pitching to the Exponential Creativity Fund have strong pitch decks, there have been a few who have asked our advice on what to include. Recognizing that new entrepreneurs coming out of the arts & culture sector are likely more familiar with grant or marketing partnership proposals, and that an investment pitch deck is radically different, Fractured Atlas decided to create and share a pitch deck guide. Our intention is to help arts entrepreneurs think through and prepare to seek investment whether you are pitching to our fund, or elsewhere.

Why is investing relevant to managerial decision making· As wit.docxalanfhall8953
Why is investing relevant to managerial decision making?
· As with all Decision Making, biases and boundedness compromise outcomes
· So many managerial decisions comprise investing something
· Money, time, energy, resources, reputation, emotion, hopes…what else?
· Perceptual and cognitive errors are unavoidable for humans
· Observation insight improvement
· Course objective: to develop comfort with reasoning through complex decisions, yourself and in teams/organizations
· But NOT so you can better exploit others’ compromised DM!
Investment decisions – studied in Behavioral Finance
· Focus on “Prescriptive” or “Descriptive”?
· Reveals how biases affect both individuals and markets
· Individuals/teams/units will be our focus
· Yours, as well as your customers, suppliers, partners, etc.
· Point out analogies where “investment” is in other than $ terms
Main causes of poor investment decisions
· Overconfidence in own knowledge, beliefs, predictions
· “Active trading is hazardous to your wealth”. Men usually worse.
· How do brokerages reconcile the conflicts of interest?
· Optimism about choices made
· Relates to availability heuristics, confirmation bias, and regret avoidance
· Encouraged by financial media – why?
· Denying randomness (or regression to the mean)
· The past usually predicts the future, but not the way most people believe
· Anchoring, status quo, and procrastination
· Tendency toward status quo, consistency, omission, or inaction
· Poor framing and misuse of reference points
· Complexicating gains/losses; not treating sunk costs as irrelevant
· Prospect theory: risk aversion with gains, risk seeking with losses
Active trading
· Traders, like everyone, are likely to regress to the mean
· The mean is losing money, since the bank/casino always get its cut
· Many jumped into the role based on vivid data
· Skewed by availability and affect heuristics
· Most neglected the other side of each transaction
· Other party is likely better equipped than you
· Every transaction has at least two sides, winners and losers
Steps to better decision-making in investing
· Recognize impossibility of outsmarting the market
· Keynes’ analogy of higher-order thinking
· Relates to the “pick a number between 0 and 100” game
· No perfect solution because human nature determines the outcome
· Determine goals and plans, then act on and stick with them
· Balance “shoulds” and “wants” (listen to the angel, mostly)
· Deploy your heuristics in useful ways
· Make long-term plans without near-term emotions
· Develop formulas (plans and policies) objectively
· Then stick to them!
· Extensions to non-monetary investments
· Most of these concepts apply to investments of other resources
· Time, energy, reputation, careers, emotion, hopes, what else?
· Analogies, examples?

Where do you start with DevOps?
Why IT Service Managemement implementations sometimes fail in real lifeChristian F. Nissen
A best practice such as ITIL may be approached in various ways. The traditional approach is to plan, design and implement practices based on a notion that we can control reality. However, experience tells us that this approach often fails. Another more agile approach is to adopt and adapt ITIL through small incremental improvements based on the insights from among other Lean IT. A third approach is to let processes emerge in a setting that encourages the preferred behaviour and inhibits undesirable behaviour. We will gain insight into the three perspectives through examples and discuss the different approaches for successfully adopting and adapting ITIL in various settings.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
