Home visiting
 Home visiting is a service delivery strategy that
traditionally matched expectant parents and parents of
young children with a designated support person typically
a trained nurse, social worker, or early childhood specialist.
 Home visiting focus turned from child-centered to a two-
generational approach in which the home visitor works
with parents on self-improvement and goal setting while
also focusing on the children.These home-visiting
programs see the nuclear family as a whole, so they also
address relational problems and conflicts.
Principles of Home visiting
 Should be planned with purpose & beneficial to patient.
 It should be according to the need of the client.
 Regular and flexible.
 It should be educative.
 Build positive nurse-patient relationship.
 Nurse should respect the patient’s right.
 Visit should be record in diary.
Advantages of Home Visiting
 It is an excellent opportunity to implement NCP.
 Provide opportunity to study home and family situation.
 Proper home visiting build good image of nursing.
 Build positive relationship.
 It clarify the doubts raised by family members.
 It help the nurse & family to modify the ways of their care.
 Convenient for pt.
 It provide natural environment for the discussion of concerns and needs.
Steps of home visiting
1- Initial Step:
In this phase CHN clarifies the source of referral &
purpose of the visit.
2- Pre-Visit Activities:
Collect prior information about the family culture,
values and surroundings.
Review family records and determines family
willingness for visit.

3- Activities During homeVisit:
Build Rapport and good relation with
client & family.
Assess needs and plan NCP according
to it.
4- Termination phase:
It is occurred when;
i. Nurse patient goal are reached.
ii. Pt change his residence.
iii. The transfer the pt care to another
nurse.

5- PostVisit Activities:
In this stage nurse record the visit and plan for next.
