which involves issues from different subjects.

3. THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDYING GENERAL STUDIES
• General Studies subject cuts across all subjects and provides students with a
general knowledge of life. They are expected to benefit from studying this
subject in the following ways:
It enhances students’ leadership skills: As students learn life skills,
including the qualities of a good leader their leadership skills are
strengthened so that they become better leaders in the future;
4. It raises awareness about the availability of natural resources and how to
utilise them: People’s awareness of their natural resources and their role
in managing them can bring about development in their communities;
It informs students about the current world issues: The subject teaches
students about the current issues and encourages them to be informed
about what is going on in the world. Current issues can be political,
economic, social, and environmental. Thus, the subject develops their
interest in discussing world issues;
5. It enables students to develop the ability to think logically: Learning about
philosophy, improves students critical thinking which is important for
analysis of various issues for decision making. Critical thinking enables
them to argue critically and make strong arguments in resolving issues
in society;
6. It informs the students about moral values: Learning about ethics,
religious studies, HIV and AIDS, drug abuse and globalisation helps
students to improve their values and become responsible members
of our society;
It provides civic education: Through democratic processes and
practices such as civic responsibilities, leadership, human rights, and
constitutional issues, students become more aware of national issues
and responsibilities that they have to deal with as the member of
