2. Introduction to CCNA
• CCNA-Cisco Certified Network Associate
• Cisco is leading manufacturer of networking devices
• CCNA is entry level certificate
• Generally Cisco designed three different level of
certifications
 Associate level
 Professional level
 Expert level
• We are in first level.
• Networking (devices can exchange information)
• Switch (centralized location where all computers are
connected in a LAN)

• Switch is a major important device
• Router(for exchanging information in different network)
• Router to Router(WAN connection)
• WAN arranged by service provider
• CCNA features(switching, connectivity, wan technologies,
different components and ports of router, different
routing methods etc)
• Firewall, the third important device
• Internet>router>Lan
• Internet is not secured network
• Anyone can simply try to enter into my network through
public network internet and access my information, or
send some programs or files which will affect my
network.

4. Introduction to CCNA(continues)
• For security we use firewall which will filter every packet
coming and going inside the network
• Like security guard.
• Anyone coming from outside network, it will ensure that
particular user has privileges. If not it will simply drop the
packet.
• Firewall(making rules/url filtering/permission/lot of
things firewall can do)
• Switch/Router/Firewall- three major devices in
networking apart from servers like microsoft, linux,solaris
etc
• Servers and clients

• Servers-hosting, dns, ftp, http, clustering lot of services
• We are not going to discuss on Servers and client
relationship
• We will learn about CCNA
• CCNA what we discuss here mainly include routing and
switching concepts
• We also won’t learn about Firewall much. For firewall
there are different courses like CCNA sec, CCNP sec
• Cisco divided all of these courses in different parts
• Cisco is leading manufacturer of switches, routers, and
firewall
• Like Cisco there are other vendors like juniper, HP. But
cisco is major
