Women’s Fellowship at Community Change aims to build the
community organizing leadership of formerly incarcerated women
Washington, D.C. – The Women’s Fellowship, a new program at
Community Change, is underway to develop the leadership of formerly
incarcerated women of color, or those directly impacted by incarceration
and the criminal justice system.
This 12-month program seeks to develop these leaders into powerful 21st-
century community organizers by equipping them with the tools to build
relationships that help shape policy decisions and increase their
understanding of how power is attained and wielded at home, work and in
their communities. Through training and political education sessions, the
women will collaborate to create a governing agenda rooted in undoing the
historical trauma for themselves, their communities and the criminal justice
system.
According to Aida M. Cuadrado Bozzo, a Community Change organizer
who heads the program, “Each woman brings expertise, a compelling
personal story, and innovative organizing experience to the fellowship. The
skills they build in the program will only enhance their commitment to
bettering the outlook in their communities. These women are the vanguard
that will bring about a new world of justice.”
