This document discusses Nu-Trax P+, a new phosphorus-based fertilizer designed to improve early-season plant nutrition. A net accumulation of soil P results from the disproportion between lower nitrogen (N) and P ratio (N:P) in animal manure and the higher N:P ratio in harvested crops. Although manure can be moved off the farm, its transportation becomes less economical with increasing distances from the source. Hamdard Laboratories (India), is a Unani pharmaceutical company in India (following the independence of India from Britain, "Hamdard" Unani branches were established in Bangladesh (erstwhile East Pakistan) and Pakistan). It was established in 1906 by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed in Delhi, and became
a waqf (non-profitable trust) in 1948. It is associated with Hamdard Foundation, a charitable educational trust.
Hamdard' is a compound word derived from Persian, which combines the words 'hum' (used in the sense of 'companion') and 'dard' (meaning 'pain'). 'Hamdard' thus means 'a companion in pain' and 'sympathizer in suffering'.
The goals of Hamdard were lofty; easing the suffering of the sick with healing herbs. With a simple tenet that no one has ever become poor by giving, Hakeem Abdul Majeed let the whole world find compassion in him.
They had always maintained that working in old, traditional ways would not be entirely fruitful. A broader outlook was essential for a continued and meaningful existence. their effective team at Hamdard helped the system gain its pride of place and thus they made an entry into an expansive world of discovery and research.
Hamdard Laboratories was founded in 1906 in Delhi by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed and Ansarullah Tabani, a Unani practitioner. The name Hamdard means "companion in suffering" in Urdu language.(itself borrowed from Persian) Hakim Hafiz Abdul Majeed was born in Pilibhit City UP, India in 1883 to Sheikh Rahim Bakhsh. He is said to have learnt the complete Quran Sharif by heart. He also studied the origin of Urdu and Persian languages. Subsequently, he acquired the highest degree in the unani system of medicine.
Hakim Hafiz Abdul Majeed got in touch with Hakim Zamal Khan, who had a keen interest in herbs and was famous for identifying medicinal plants. Having consulted with his wife, Abdul Majeed set up a herbal shop at Hauz Qazi in Delhi in 1906 and started to produce herbal medicine there. In 1920 the small herbal shop turned into a full-fledged production house.
Hamdard Foundation was created in 1964 to disburse the profits of the company to promote the interests of the society. All the profits of the company go to the foundation.
After Abdul Majeed's death, his son Hakeem Abdul Hameed took over the administration of Hamdard Laboratories at the age of fourteen.
Even with humble beginnings, the goals of Hamdard were lofty; easing the suffering of the sick with healing herbs. With a simple tenet that no one has ever become poor by giving, Hakeem Abdul Majeed let the whole world find compassion in him. Plants have a big appetite for phos early
Growers know that phosphorous is important in plant growth and development, but few understand how hungry plants are for P early on
A plants’ appetite for phosphorus in the first 28 days of growth is huge.
Research has shown that the flux of phos into young plants is greatest from emergence to 28 days after planting. (If a plant was in a situation in which it had an unlimited amount of plant-available phosphorus it would gobble it up quickly in order to satisfy it’s huge appetite for phos within the first 28 days. However, that’s not normally the case and early season hunger can occur).
So, we know with that plants are very hungry for phos early in the season…..
Not getting enough phosphorous to the crop early in the season can have a dramatic impact on overall plant growth and yield potential.
In the chart you see here - researchers tested the impact of holding back P fertilizer for a 4-week period. What they found was that the “hold back” had a much bigger impact on the crop when it was the first four weeks of growth, vs. 4 weeks later on in the season.
This means that the biggest impact P has on the crop – happens early in the season
More tillers for the plants that only HAD early season P vs. the plants that only HAD later season P.
This is the same trial, but we see the difference with respect to root growth. Clearly there is a greater penalty in root growth when there P is removed early in the season, vs. later in the season.
There are basically three key things that all growers should know about phosphorous – to help understand the challenges with the current fertilizers available
These are:
1) Plants have a big appetite for phos early
2) Phos is not mobile in the soil
3) Phos can be tied up in the soil – and not available to this year’s crop.
As farms become larger and growers become busier, seeding earlier into cool and wet soils becomes necessary
2) Phos is not mobile in the soil
In fact, the amount of movement of P from the granule into the soil is only roughly 1/10 of an inch – and then the plant root needs to grow in order to reach more.

What we know:
Plants are very hungry for phos early
But phos doesn’t move in the soil so a young plant might have a hard time accessing the phos. Young roots need to grow and hunt for more phos. The phos doesn’t MOVE to the seedling.
So, essentially, a young and hungry plant may have a difficult time getting the phos nutrition it needs.
****Important to Mention that even HARDER for plants to grow out in COLD and WET Soils**** something that is increasingly becoming the norm farms are getting larger and seeding dates are constantly being pushed.
3) Phos can be tied up in the soil – and not available to this year’s crop
When traditional granular phosphorus is applied to the soil and the granules dissolve, the phosphorus begins to react with the soil, insoluble complexes with Fe Ca or other soil elements.
These reactions reduce the availability of phosphorus for plant uptake. In the year of application, up to 80% of the phosphorus that producers apply is unavailable to their crops.
This lack of plant available phosphorous may impact crop performance and yields.
This means that growers may not be getting the value for their fertilizer dollar that they expect – and can have implications environmentally as well.
What we know:

- Phos can be tied up in the soil, so even if a young plant root was able to find phosphorus, it may not be plant available. Making early season nutrition that much harder!

If we were to do a coating demo:
The way it works, is that a farmer would request Nu-Trax P+ in his or her fertilizer blend.
The retailer adds the powder product into their fertilizer blender
The powder adheres to each and every prill of dry fertilizer that is in the blend through electrostatic adhesion
This is the same patented technology featured in all of the Wolf Trax brand DDP nutrients and once it’s attached to the prill, it won’t come off.
So now every prill of this fertilizer that you spread or band in your field will have a bit of phosphorous, zinc and manganese on it.
STEVEN – We need to stress that the product itself is a fine powder that is easily coated onto a fertilizer prill.
Here is a real life product demonstration that is a great visual example of the EvenCoat Technology. Pictured Here is Urea. Quickly, what we did was we took 5 ton of untreated Urea and put it trough a typical mixer with just 20 lbs of our Iron DDP product then augured it through a tender truck back into the Urea bin. Clearly, we achieved consistent, even coverage.
What you end up with is even, blanket-like distribution of Nu-Trax P+ in the field.
I have a great illustration for your viewers – which does a good job of showing how the Nu-Trax P+ approach compares to traditional granular phosphate fertilizers.
With traditional MAP or DAP applied at 70 lbs/acre, for example you may have 4 – 5 granules within the rooting depth of your average corn seedling at V2
With the Nu-Trax approach, coating the product onto hundreds of lbs of dry granular N, K and S per acre – you get 20 – 30 points of interception, or approximately a 5 fold increase in access points.
And all those additional feeding spots for the plant help with the challenges we talked about with roots trying to find phosphorus in the soil…
This means for the plant is that the nutrients needed early on in the season are easier to access because there are so many more points of interception with every prill being coated.
This means closer proximity to plant roots.
Because it is so effective, only a low rate of NuTrax P+ is needed to evenly coat the granules.
Nu-Trax P+ also features the PlantActiv Formulation, which means it is chemically and physically designed for better and earlier plant availability.
It’s formulated as a fine powder, as you can see here, and the particle size is optimal for plant uptake.
As a result, nutrients get into the plant more quickly.

As discerned at tuber initiation a few weeks back the NTP set has more tubers. At todays observation, this still seems to be apparent. Tubers in both sides are sizing well. I think this should be a great crop.
Reds in kern county are notorious for erwinia- I'm already seeing presence of the disease today in the field. Its a pungent bacteria disease that turns the tubers to complete mush.
Hopefully the WT side will have less incident of disease & better packout/ quality. Its already in the low 90's F. it is unseasonably very warm for april with severe drought conditions.

Nu-Trax P+ is a good fit for the 4R initiative and can play a part in the reduction of P over application
In this specific trial, the growers chose to replace their phos COMPLETELY with Nu-Trax P+.
The reason they did that, was because their soil test showed that the Olsen P in his soil was quite so they decided that replace their P with Nu-Trax P+ was a good option for them.
So, we can see that with the canola, the yield results were a tie…which is a win in this situation because the cost/ac was lower with the Nu-Trax P+ treatment than with granular phos. In this tie situation, the ROI was better with Nu-Trax P+ than without.
