In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

2. Stare Down Game
• Everyone remove a shoe and put it in a pile
• Someone pull out two shoes
• Sit them in chairs and stare each other down
• First one to lose leaves
• Grab another shoe and keep going
• Find out who wins!
3. Why do we stare?
• We stare to find fault
• We stare to look down on someone
• We stare because we like what we see
• We stare to discover the truth
4. What is tolerance?
• Do you know what zero tolerance is?
• It means you don’t get a warning.
• If you are found with a weapon in school,
you are kicked out.
• No forgiveness, no flexibility.
• You are immediately assumed guilty.
5. What is intolerance?
• Definition
• an attitude of not accepting or respecting
different opinions, practices, or people.
• How do you think Christians should act?
• God constantly gives us second chance
• Jesus forgives us. We are called to do that!

7. Some Quotes
• Mahatma Ghandi
• Was Hindi, but had very Christian principals.
• I like your Christ, I do not like your
Christians. Your Christians are so unlike
your Christ.
• An eye for an eye and the
whole world goes blind
8. Matthew 7:1-2
Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
For in the same way you judge others,
you will be judged, and with the measure
you use, it will be measured to you.
9. Matthew 7:3-5
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in
your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the
plank in your own eye? How can you say to your
brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’
when all the time there is a plank in your own
eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of
your own eye, and then you will see clearly to
remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
10. Matthew 7:6-7
“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not
throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they
may trample them under their feet, and
then turn and tear you to pieces.”
11. Three things we must learn
• Number One: We are not to judge.
• This is not our place.
• We are called to love!
• Matthew 22:36-40
• Love the Lord your God with all your
heart, soul, strength and mind. Love your
neighbor as yourself (paraphrased)
12. Look for the
best in people
• Number Two: It’s easy to find fault
• It is hard to give advice
• Be real with people
• You are not perfect,
don’t expect others to be
• Sin is sin. To God they are all equal
13. Save your breath
• What does the Matthew 7:6-7 mean?
• Number Three: Don’t waste your breath
• Some people are just not going to “get” the
gospel of Jesus Christ
• Some are going to want to just argue.
• There’s no point in bashing it into their heads.
• You need to show love by your actions.
14. Romans 2:1-2
You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass
judgment on someone else, for at whatever
point you judge the other, you are condemning
yourself, because you who pass judgment do
the same things. Now we know that God’s
judgment against those who do such things is
based on truth.
15. Romans 2:3-4
So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on
them and yet do the same things, do you think
you will escape God's judgment? Or do you
show contempt for the riches of his kindness,
tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's
kindness leads you toward repentance?
16. God Is Love!
• Love is patience, kindness and tolerance.
• 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
• If you want to affect others and lead them
to salvation, you need to do one task...
• Love them!
• This is a tall order by the way!
17. Dealing with correction
• But what if people are just plain wrong?
• Do we just ignore it? No!
• The Bible has strong moral values.
• We need to teach what these are and why
• We need to address it in a respectful way!
18. Matthew 18:15-17
If your brother sins against you, go and show him
his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens
to you, you have won your brother over. But if he
will not listen, take one or two others along, so
that “every matter may be established by the
testimony of two or three witnesses.” If he refuses
to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he
refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as
you would a pagan or a tax collector.
19. How to treat people
• How do you think we should treat tax
collectors?
• How would you treat your tax collector?
• Well, you probably just wouldn’t
waste your breath.
• You need to treat them respectfully
as you would other people.
• You still have no right to hate them!
20. God doesn’t
need tattle tales
• God is omniscient. He knows all things.
• He can see into your heart and mine.
• Hehappen to people.
