The interview was with a military instructor who teaches communications equipment to adult learners. He decided to become a teacher to have stability as a single father after deployments. His previous experience using the equipment and one-on-one training helped him teach the course. Some challenges are that students are the same age and may challenge the teacher, not all students learn the same, and some are previous coworkers. Despite initial reasons for teaching, he has found it rewarding and enjoys keeping students engaged as an extrovert.

The facilitator, i.e. my self, feels that the inclusion of these is done with a view to motivate the teachers to teach with greater commitment. Teachers must be motivated to become better teachers, without which the quality of education cannot be improved for generations together. When the teachers realize the important role they are playing, it is hoped that they would raise to the occasion and add love to the responsible job they are doing, and create the necessary impact. - For a student hesitating to join a group, greet them warmly and find a way to include them (e.g. "we could use your perspective on this"). Introduce them to others.
The key is showing you notice and care about each individual student. Make an effort to understand their perspective and needs. With patience and empathy, you can help adult learners feel comfortable and motivated to learn.

Angular Measurements: Instruments used; Introduction to Compass Surveying, Bearings and Longitude & Latitude of a Line, Introduction to total station.

- 2. BACKGROUND I CONDUCTED AN INTERVIEW WITH SOMEONE WHO TEACHES THEATER DEPLOYED COMMUNICATIONS FOR THE AIR FORCE HE IS A MILITARY INSTRUCTOR AND TRAINER AND HAS BEEN TEACHING ADULT LEARNERS FOR ALMOST FOUR YEARS THIS CLASS IS TAUGHT IN A FORMAL CLASSROOM SETTING
- 3. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME AN INSTRUCTOR? REASONS FOR TEACHING SOMEWHAT SELFISH WAS LOOKING FOR SOME STABILITY AND WANTED A BREAK FROM DEPLOYING AFTER BECOMING A SINGLE FATHER
- 4. HOW DID YOUR PREVIOUS JOB EXPERIENCES HELP YOU WITH TEACHING ADULT LEARNERS? HELPED IMMENSELY. PREVIOUSLY USED THE EQUIPMENT USED IN THE COURSE HAD ALSO DONE SOME ONE ON ONE TRAINING BEFORE PREVIOUS UNDERSTANDING OF WHY COURSE WAS IMPORTANT HELPED WITH PROVIDING CLARIFICATION TO STUDENTS
- 5. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU’VE FACED TEACHING ADULT LEARNERS? STUDENTS ARE THE SAME AGE AND SOME LIKE TO CHALLENGE YOU NOT EVERYONE LEARNS THE SAME WAY. LEARNING HOW TO TEACH DIFFERENT TYPES OF ADULT LEARNERS SOME STUDENTS ARE PREVIOUS CO-WORKERS AND HAVE A HARD TIME SEEING YOU IN THE ROLE OF TEACHER
- 6. WAS IT HARDER THAN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE? NOT REALLY (LAUGHS). I’M A HUGE EXTROVERT AND ENJOY INTERACTING WITH STUDENTS. BEING AN EXTROVERT ALSO HELPS ME TO KEEP THE STUDENTS ENGAGED DESPITE REASONS FOR WANTING TO TEACH I COME FROM A FAMILY OF EDUCATORS AND IT FEELS NATURAL
- 7. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE INTERESTED IN BEING A TEACHER OF ADULT LEARNERS? DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK FELLOW INSTRUCTORS FOR HELP YOU DON’T HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS. DON’T PRETEND THAT YOU DO…ADULT LEARNERS WILL SEE RIGHT THROUGH IT BUT KEEP LEARNING SO THAT YOU CAN PROVIDE ANSWERS TO YOUR STUDENTS AND IMPROVE YOUR SKILLS BE OPEN TO THE FEEDBACK OF BOTH COLLEAGUES AND STUDENTS HAVE FUN!
- 8. FINAL THOUGHTS DESPITE ORIGINAL REASONS FOR DECIDING TO TEACH IT IS A REWARDING EXPERIENCE EVEN IN A MILITARY ENVIRONMENT ADULT LEARNERS STILL WANT TO KNOW WHY THEY NEED TO LEARN SOMETHING MILITARY CLASSROOMS SEEM TO HAVE ASPECTS OF PEDAGOGY (TEACHER CENTERED) AND ANDRAGOGY (FULFILLING KNOWLES’ ASSUMPTIONS)
