DEFINITION
 An interview is a formal meeting in which a person
questions or evaluate other person
 The person who ask questions is called the
Interviewer and the person who replies is the
Interviewee.
PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE
 First, it is the only way to see an applicant in action
– how he looks, his manner, his bearing.
 Second, it is the only way to witness how he
interacts and how he responds, his way of thinking,
the effect of his personality on others.
 Third, it is perhaps the best way to get at the ‘will
do’ features of a performance- motivation, initiative,
stability, perseverance, work, habits and judgments.

 Disciplinary

 Both make good impression
 Can be advertised by newspaper, magazine or
campus interview
Information Interview
The interviewer ask set of questions and clarifies
his doubts.
He listens to interviewee’s answer
This is done with pre-determined purpose
Persuasive Interviews:
 Salesmen perform individual selling or industrial
marketing
 The persuader discusses potential customers
needs and show howthe product or concept can
fulfill needs
Exit
Evaluation/Assessment
 This is more of Discussion.
 Focus is on career development, shortcoming,
areas which need improvement,training needs,
opportunities for promotion
 Immediate boss does this
Counselling
Senior talks to a subordinate about personal
problems that are interfering with work
performance.
Conflict resolution
 Both parties are right & important
 Need arise to resolve conflict in formal way
 In this, both parties are encouraged to adjust
their perceptions & attitudes to create more
productive climate for work.
 Termination
Disciplinary Interview:
 Need to correct the behavior of employee
who has ignored the rules and regulations
of organization
 The interviewer should have empathetic
listening skills
Stress Interview
 Candidates are put in Stressful situation in order
to test the reaction to stress.
 A stress interview test qualities as courage,
tact,cool temper,self command which are needed
in worst situation in job or business
 Several methods are employed for this:
STRESS INTERVIEW
1. Questions are asked by different people
together
2. Cross questioning and creating confusion
3. Arguing
4. Rapid fire questioning on different topics take
place
5. The candidates are subjected to silence and
inattention

APPEARANCES
 Candidate should be properly groomed
 Nails should be clean & well cut
 Personal hygiene
 Hair gel and combed properly
 Clothes should be well laundered and well fitted
 Footwear should be appropriate and clean
 Hand bag
FACIAL EXPRESSIONS
 EYES
 SMILE
 WALK
POSTURES
 Should be confident
 Should sit in a smart way
 Walking properly
 Body movement should be smart
 Body language should be positive
JOB INTERVIEW ETIQUETTES
 An appropriate greeting: eg: Hello, Good morning
etc. should be said
 Shake hand with firmness
 Do not sit down until asked
 Take care while shifting chair, it should not be nosily
 Be comfortable in handling your folder, bag. Do not
show clumsiness
 Do not be over profuse in answering
 Thank them politely after Interview
 Maintain a smart posture throughout.

Interview students

  • 2. DEFINITION  An interview is a formal meeting in which a person questions or evaluate other person  The person who ask questions is called the Interviewer and the person who replies is the Interviewee.
  • 3. PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE  First, it is the only way to see an applicant in action – how he looks, his manner, his bearing.  Second, it is the only way to witness how he interacts and how he responds, his way of thinking, the effect of his personality on others.  Third, it is perhaps the best way to get at the ‘will do’ features of a performance- motivation, initiative, stability, perseverance, work, habits and judgments.
  • 4. TYPES OF INTERVIEW  Job  Information  Persuasive  Exit  Evaluation  Counselling  Conflict-resolution  Disciplinary  Termination  Stress Interview
  • 5. JOB  Both make good impression  Can be advertised by newspaper, magazine or campus interview
  • 6. Information Interview The interviewer ask set of questions and clarifies his doubts. He listens to interviewee’s answer This is done with pre-determined purpose
  • 7. Persuasive Interviews:  Salesmen perform individual selling or industrial marketing  The persuader discusses potential customers needs and show howthe product or concept can fulfill needs
  • 9. Evaluation/Assessment  This is more of Discussion.  Focus is on career development, shortcoming, areas which need improvement,training needs, opportunities for promotion  Immediate boss does this
  • 10. Counselling Senior talks to a subordinate about personal problems that are interfering with work performance.
  • 11. Conflict resolution  Both parties are right & important  Need arise to resolve conflict in formal way  In this, both parties are encouraged to adjust their perceptions & attitudes to create more productive climate for work.
  • 13. Disciplinary Interview:  Need to correct the behavior of employee who has ignored the rules and regulations of organization  The interviewer should have empathetic listening skills
  • 14. Stress Interview  Candidates are put in Stressful situation in order to test the reaction to stress.  A stress interview test qualities as courage, tact,cool temper,self command which are needed in worst situation in job or business  Several methods are employed for this:
  • 15. STRESS INTERVIEW 1. Questions are asked by different people together 2. Cross questioning and creating confusion 3. Arguing 4. Rapid fire questioning on different topics take place 5. The candidates are subjected to silence and inattention
  • 17. APPEARANCES  Candidate should be properly groomed  Nails should be clean & well cut  Personal hygiene  Hair gel and combed properly  Clothes should be well laundered and well fitted  Footwear should be appropriate and clean  Hand bag
  • 20. POSTURES  Should be confident  Should sit in a smart way  Walking properly  Body movement should be smart  Body language should be positive
  • 21. JOB INTERVIEW ETIQUETTES  An appropriate greeting: eg: Hello, Good morning etc. should be said  Shake hand with firmness  Do not sit down until asked  Take care while shifting chair, it should not be nosily  Be comfortable in handling your folder, bag. Do not show clumsiness  Do not be over profuse in answering  Thank them politely after Interview  Maintain a smart posture throughout.
  • 22. MISTAKES GENERALLY COMMITTED IN INTERVIEW  Poor personal Appearance  He seems to show he knows all  Lack of knowledge and experience  Is not prepared for interview  Has no real interest in job
