INTRODUCTION: An internship is an opportunity to apply the knowledge has
gained from your academic studies in a practical, workplace setting.
In the other word an internship is any career-related experience you are involved in. It might
be a summer job, a semester-long class assignment, or a community service project.
Whatever the experience, if you are gaining knowledge and developing skills which you can
apply to your future career, it can be considered an internship. And if you “play your cards
right”, your internship could potentially turn into a successful career. By treating your
internship like a professional “job”, you can gain experience, make connections, and have an
advantage over other candidates when it comes time to apply for a full-time position. An
internship learning goals may include:
Academic learning:Applying knowledge learned in the classroom to the workplace.
Career development:Gaining knowledge of the qualifications and duties of a position
and exploring interest in a particular field.
Skill development:Gaining an understanding of the skills and knowledge required in
the workplace.
Personal development:Gaining decision-making skills, critical thinking skills,
increased confidence and self-esteem.
IMPORTANCE OF INTERNSHIP: Internships are known for giving
students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in
real world environments. At the same time, they will also develop skills which will help them
perform better at their job. One problem commonly cited by employers is that many
graduates do not have the practical skills necessary to excel in the job market. They also feel that
the professionalism of students is less than it should be. Even though there are a large
number of theories on how to encourage employees and increase profits, it is apparent that
enhanced levels of education are not enough to prepare students for a real world environment.
Being able to improve these weaknesses will make graduates much more effective in their
careers. The vast majority of students in this study had high to above average scores. The
students also demonstrated enhanced abilities in the areas of oral communication
and leadership skills. The goals of the study were largely successful. If more colleges and
educational programs can encourage their students to take internships, it is likely that many
of their graduates would have the skills necessary to succeed. Setting up the right program for
employees can be a challenging process. The students who participated in internships
performed much better than students who graduated from the program without going into
internships. This is evidence that education is not enough to allow graduates to perform at a
higher level. In the real world environment, analytical skills are not enough. Students must
have both interpersonal and leadership abilities. While most colleges are good at teaching
analytical skills, they are lacking when it comes to other characteristics. By effectively using
internships, students will increase their skills and make them valuable in the job market.

BENIFIT OF INTERNSHIP:
Library itself is a world full knowledge and
learning. There are many sections from which I got training and knowledge.
Almost I covered all the section and areas in Aligarh Muslim University Maulana
Azad Library. Each section has its own style of controlling the work. It seemed
there I am passing through a new village, meeting at every man and there is some
think to be remembered of every man. At the first step of my learning I learnt how
to maintain acquisition section. Then I learn how to register and accession new
books. To register the new books the library authority uses two different kinds of
style. It is very interesting and quite amazing that university authority control and
maintained such huge amount of books in a systematic and technical manner.
Apart from these library activities I develop myself in communication. Not
only in terms of talk base but also in terms of hospitality and dealing with the
people. In Aligarh Muslim University Maulana Azad Library are given a fantastic
and excellent service to the students. They accept feedbacks from the users by e-
mail and also directly. I have also learned there how to reply the student
effectively. As it is a part of good relationship with students.
Activities Along With Library Staffs: The staffs of Maulana
Azad Library are totally friendly and helpful. They help me more than I expected.
All the requirements of my personal and professional life during that training
period have been fulfilled by them. They dint only teach me as a student but they
proved that proved that “friendly at the great teachers”. Because they dealt with me
just like as I am there colleague.
CONCLUSION: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is the second largest
library in Asia. Aligarh Muslim University has been playing a vital role in
academic, socio economic, political and cultural affairs. It gears up to educate the‐
lion share of population of the country. AMU caters to the need of all the teachers,
researchers and students of the university. So, I think that, it is most essential to
develop the library at any cost. It takes the opportunity to modernize its services
for its learned users.
To be a complete man one has to acquire knowledge.
Knowledge comes from book and library is a world of knowledge, which is full of
books. Though the process of internship was not so long, yet I have learnt lost of
think regarding library related activities. It is a burning example for better
leadership environment. It not only trays the students, but also encourage them to
do great works.

  • 1. A REPORT OF INTERNSHIP IN MAULANAAZAD LIBRARY SUBMITTED BY- MD.AZIZUR RAHMAN COURCE-MLIS ROLL NO. 15390011
  • 2. INTRODUCTION: An internship is an opportunity to apply the knowledge has gained from your academic studies in a practical, workplace setting. In the other word an internship is any career-related experience you are involved in. It might be a summer job, a semester-long class assignment, or a community service project. Whatever the experience, if you are gaining knowledge and developing skills which you can apply to your future career, it can be considered an internship. And if you “play your cards right”, your internship could potentially turn into a successful career. By treating your internship like a professional “job”, you can gain experience, make connections, and have an advantage over other candidates when it comes time to apply for a full-time position. An internship learning goals may include: Academic learning:Applying knowledge learned in the classroom to the workplace. Career development:Gaining knowledge of the qualifications and duties of a position and exploring interest in a particular field. Skill development:Gaining an understanding of the skills and knowledge required in the workplace. Personal development:Gaining decision-making skills, critical thinking skills, increased confidence and self-esteem. IMPORTANCE OF INTERNSHIP: Internships are known for giving students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real world environments. At the same time, they will also develop skills which will help them perform better at their job. One problem commonly cited by employers is that many graduates do not have the practical skills necessary to excel in the job market. They also feel that the professionalism of students is less than it should be. Even though there are a large number of theories on how to encourage employees and increase profits, it is apparent that enhanced levels of education are not enough to prepare students for a real world environment. Being able to improve these weaknesses will make graduates much more effective in their careers. The vast majority of students in this study had high to above average scores. The students also demonstrated enhanced abilities in the areas of oral communication and leadership skills. The goals of the study were largely successful. If more colleges and educational programs can encourage their students to take internships, it is likely that many of their graduates would have the skills necessary to succeed. Setting up the right program for employees can be a challenging process. The students who participated in internships performed much better than students who graduated from the program without going into internships. This is evidence that education is not enough to allow graduates to perform at a higher level. In the real world environment, analytical skills are not enough. Students must have both interpersonal and leadership abilities. While most colleges are good at teaching analytical skills, they are lacking when it comes to other characteristics. By effectively using internships, students will increase their skills and make them valuable in the job market. ABOUT ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) occupies a unique position amongst universities and institutions of
  • 3. higher learning in the country. It was established in 1920, and evolved out of the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College (MAO College) which was set up in 1877 by the great visionary and social reformer, Sir Syed Ahmad khan. From its very inception, it has kept its door open to the members of all communities and from all corners of the country and the world. The Aligarh Muslim University is the realization of a vision which was broad, far- reaching and realistic. It ranks 8th among the top 20 research universities in India. In spite of the establishment of a numbers of universities and institutions of higher learning all over the country, this university has been maintaining its national and international character as an institution of excellence. The university now has 12 faculties comprising 95 teaching departments, 5 institution and 13 centers. ABOUT MAULANAAZAD LIBRARY: Maulana Azad Library (MAL) is the heart of Aligarh Muslim University, Because of that is deals with the history about the Aligarh Muslim University as well as Sir Syed Ahmed khan. • 4. regarded as second largest University Library of Asia with more than 13.5 lakh books/documents. The foundation of the Library was laid in 1875 when Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, a great social reformer of his time, established a school that later became Mohammaden Anglo Oriental College in 1877 and finally Aligarh Muslim University in 1920 by an Act of Parliament. The foundation stone of the Library was laid by Lord Lytton, the then Viceroy of India. The present grand seven storied building surrounded by 4.5 acres of land in 1960 was inaugurated by Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Prime Minister of India and was named as Maulana Azad Library, after the name of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the great Educationist, Statesman & the first Education Minister of independent India. The Oriental Division of Maulana Azad Library comprising of about two lakh printed books & periodicals including 10,000 items belonging to rare category in Urdu/Persian/Arabic/Hindi. Sanskrit forms the most significant part of the collection. Donations received from great bibliophiles and literary persons are designated as special collections by the names of their donors. The Urdu collection with more than one lakh books on almost all aspects of Indian Life and Culture forms the largest part of Oriental Division. A substantial number of rare and out of print publications of 19th century belong to the Scientific Society of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Fort William College (Kolkata), Delhi College, Agra College and from the Royal Printing Presses of the court of Delhi. One of the most priced collection of the library is its collection of about 16000 rare manuscripts, one of which written on parchment in Koofi script is claimed to be inscribed by Hazrat Ali (the fourth caliph of Islam), 1400 years ago. Several royal decrees of Moghal emperors namely Babur, Akbar, Shahjahan, Aurangzeb, Shah Alam etc. and also translation of Sanskrit works such as Bhagwad Geeta, Mahabharata and Leelawati in Persian by AbulFaizFaizi, a scholar in the court of Moghal Emperor Akbar are some of the highlights of the manuscripts collection of this Library. No wonder than, the Library known for its collection of oriental manuscripts is frequented by the scholars of Orientalia and Medieval India. Yet another highlight of the Manuscript Collection is the painting of TULIP flowers, considered as magnam opus of Mansoor Naqqash, the celebrated artist in the court of Emperor Jahangir. Some other valuable Sanskrit works translated into Persian forming part of manuscript collection are Ayurveda in Telugu and Bhasdas in Malyalam script written on palm leaves. Apart from the collection of orientalia the Library has a vast collection of books in English belonging to different subjects especially in Science Technology.

ACQUISITION SECTION/DIVISION: Library acquisition is the department of a library responsible for the selection and purchase of materials or resources. The department may select vendors, negotiate consortium pricing, arrange for standing orders, and select individual titles or resources. Libraries, both physical and digital, usually have four common broad goals that help dictate these responsibilities. These goals are significant to libraries in order to maintain the basic principle of access: • 1. To acquire material as quickly as possible. • 2. To register the new books the library authority uses two different kinds of style. It is very interesting and quite amazing that university authority control and maintained such huge amount of books in a systematic and technical manner. Apart from these library activities I develop myself in communication. Not only in terms of talk base but also in terms of hospitality and dealing with the people. In Aligarh Muslim University Maulana Azad Library are given a fantastic and excellent service to the students. They accept feedbacks from the users by e- mail and also directly.
