INTERNET OF THINGS: THE NEXT MEGA-TREND
Internet of Things connects devices such as everyday consumer objects and industrial
equipment onto the network, enabling information gathering and management of
these devices via software to increase efficiency, enable new services or achieve other
health, safety or environmental benefits.
LATEST TRENDS IN IoT
AUTOMOBILES
WEARABLES
• Providing users with real-time data about their health or an
augmented view of the world, wearable technologies will form
an integral part of the IoT.
• The idea is to enable sensor-equipped "things" to communicate
with one another in meaningful, actionable ways.
The rich data created by
wearable tech will drive the
rise of the 'human cloud' of
personal data
Wearable devices
to reach about
$20bn by 2017,
growing at over
60% CAGR
Connected wearable devices include categories
such as fitness bands, smart watches, smart
glasses and action cameras.
E.g. Google Glass, Nike Fuel+, Autographer
As the integration with smartphones and vehicles gets
deeper, the information exchange will be two way –
Smartphone to Vehicle and vice versa.
Using the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD/OBD-II) data,
information regarding engine and other crucial vehicle
parameters can be displayed on the driver’s smartphones
and same can be sent to service provider for analysis. Alerts
related to the car and performing actions on certain vehicle
parts will become seamless.
Connected cars are vehicles that connect to the
internet and may also feature the ability to
communicate with other vehicles and
infrastructure, such as traffic lights.
Connected cars
penetration is being driven
by applications in the
following: safety, vehicle
diagnostics, infotainment
and navigation, and fleet
management.
FUTURE OF IoT
The Internet of Things is emerging as the third wave in the development of
Internet. Personal lives, workplace productivity and consumption will all change.
Plus there will be a string of new businesses, from those that will expand the
Internet “pipes”, to those that will analyse the reams of data, to those that will
make new things we haven’t even thought of yet.

WHAT IS
DRIVING
GROWTH?
The IoT value proposition-
a driver of new product
cycles and another leg of
cost efficiencies
Companies are focused on
the IoT as a driver of
incremental revenue
streams based on new
product and services.
Businesses are also
embracing the IoT to
improve productivity and
save costs.
Consumer demand is also driving
IoT adoption as they embrace new
technology to improve health,
energy savings and safety.

INTEREST AREAS
Have detailed understanding of concepts and applications of
• Embedded systems
• Microprocessors 8086, 8085, 8051
• ATMega32
• IPv6 and Wireless Communication Technologies
• Cloud and Grid Computing
• Networks and Mobile Computing
How IoT can be used?
At primary level it can prove vital
in reducing chaos with monitored
automation in various field of
administration and at institutes
especially logging medical
information of individuals to help
us build healthy and safe society.

Editor's Notes

  • #3 The internet of things is a pretty broad concept overall as the name given to the interconnection of everyday devices from appliances in the home to automobiles, all the way upto biochip transponders and farm animals. Essentiallly it the way that which machine communicates with each other to improve efficiency and daily tasks. Although it is increasing in leaps and bounce but still it is quite limited compared to what it could be. And it might be seen a gimmick to an uninformed individual but it is growing in many areas.
