Definition
 The internet of things is a network of
different devices, electronics, machines
and sensors that have the ability to
connect to each other to gather and
transfer data from one another.
Internet of Things
 In the internet of things, things which are
physical objects such as our phones,
computers, tablets have the capability to
connect with each other without human
intervention.
 Each thing in the internet of things can be
remotely sensed and uniquely identified
through the assignment of IP addresses.
• Unlike in the traditional
setting, computers need
user input to be able to
pass information from
one another.
• However, in the internet
of things, our devices,
sensors and computers
are able to generate
their own data and pass
this data to each other
without any form of
human assistance.
Internet of Things
 It’s like these devices and machines are
talking with each other on their own
without any human assistance.
 This capability would revolutionize every
existing aspect of the human civilization
paving the way for automation to be an
integral part of our society.
Transportation
 The different modes
of transportation like
private vehicles,
buses, trains and
aircraft etc., would no
longer need human
drivers and pilots to
operate them since
they would be able to
communicate to the
different sensors
installed in them to
navigate themselves
to their destinations.
Health Industry
 The work of doctors
and nurses would be
made convenient as
they no longer need
to periodically exam
their patients as
critical information
such as the medical
condition of their
patients would
already be gathered
and sent directly to
their phones.
Manufacturing
 The manufacturing
industry would be made
more efficient using a
variety of networked
sensors that feed live
information from the
assembly line to the
production manager.
This information would
contain critical
information such as the
productivity level of the
machines and the
amount of wastage each
production step is
generating.
Environmental Protection
 In our world today wherein the
deterioration of our environment
is even becoming more evident,
a network of sensors and devices
will help environmentalists keep
track of the pollution being
produced by different sectors
such as the industrial, energy
and private sectors. The data
gathered from this sensors would
help authorities make the
decisions to regulate these
sectors in order to reduce
harmful emissions emanating
from each sector.
Infrastructure
 By using a network of sensors
installed in the various roads,
bridges, railways, tunnels and
buildings in an urban area,
information can be gathered
simultaneously from these sensors to
identify infrastructures which need
immediate repair and are in danger
of collapsing. In case of an
emergency such as an earthquake,
the coordination of emergency
response units can be made more
efficient by redirecting emergency
help to areas who are in most need of
help which would be identified
through the use of different sensors
and devices.
Energy
 By integrating an array of
sensors into different
energy consuming
devices such as switches,
bulbs, phones, televisions
etc., there would be
opportunity to optimize
energy consumption and
decrease carbon emission
as a result of inefficient
energy usage. This would
greatly benefit the
household sector as it is
one of the largest energy
consuming sector in any
country.
Smart City
 The Internet of Things can
be utilized in a huge scale
such as in cities in order to
improve the over-all quality
of city life from simple
activities such as parking
your vehicle to performing
more complex things such
as undergoing surgery at
your local hospital. The
concept of a smart city is
built upon the idea wherein
every aspect of city life is
made more convenient and
more efficient through the
use of networked devices,
sensors and machines.
IoT trend in 2 years
 In the near future, there will be an increase
in the number devices and sensors that will
be connected to each other across the
internet. Even now, it is evident in the
various applications that are available in our
smartphones such as Uber and Airbnb that
devices, not just people are becoming more
connected as ever. As mentioned, more
sensors and devices will be integrated in the
different industries to gather relevant data
for the continued improvement and efficiency
of the different industries.

  • 2. Definition  The internet of things is a network of different devices, electronics, machines and sensors that have the ability to connect to each other to gather and transfer data from one another.
  • 3. Internet of Things  In the internet of things, things which are physical objects such as our phones, computers, tablets have the capability to connect with each other without human intervention.  Each thing in the internet of things can be remotely sensed and uniquely identified through the assignment of IP addresses.
  • 4. • Unlike in the traditional setting, computers need user input to be able to pass information from one another. • However, in the internet of things, our devices, sensors and computers are able to generate their own data and pass this data to each other without any form of human assistance.
  • 5. Internet of Things  It’s like these devices and machines are talking with each other on their own without any human assistance.  This capability would revolutionize every existing aspect of the human civilization paving the way for automation to be an integral part of our society.
  • 6. Transportation  The different modes of transportation like private vehicles, buses, trains and aircraft etc., would no longer need human drivers and pilots to operate them since they would be able to communicate to the different sensors installed in them to navigate themselves to their destinations.
  • 7. Health Industry  The work of doctors and nurses would be made convenient as they no longer need to periodically exam their patients as critical information such as the medical condition of their patients would already be gathered and sent directly to their phones.
  • 8. Manufacturing  The manufacturing industry would be made more efficient using a variety of networked sensors that feed live information from the assembly line to the production manager. This information would contain critical information such as the productivity level of the machines and the amount of wastage each production step is generating.
  • 9. Environmental Protection  In our world today wherein the deterioration of our environment is even becoming more evident, a network of sensors and devices will help environmentalists keep track of the pollution being produced by different sectors such as the industrial, energy and private sectors. The data gathered from this sensors would help authorities make the decisions to regulate these sectors in order to reduce harmful emissions emanating from each sector.
  • 10. Infrastructure  By using a network of sensors installed in the various roads, bridges, railways, tunnels and buildings in an urban area, information can be gathered simultaneously from these sensors to identify infrastructures which need immediate repair and are in danger of collapsing. In case of an emergency such as an earthquake, the coordination of emergency response units can be made more efficient by redirecting emergency help to areas who are in most need of help which would be identified through the use of different sensors and devices.
  • 11. Energy  By integrating an array of sensors into different energy consuming devices such as switches, bulbs, phones, televisions etc., there would be opportunity to optimize energy consumption and decrease carbon emission as a result of inefficient energy usage. This would greatly benefit the household sector as it is one of the largest energy consuming sector in any country.
  • 12. Smart City  The Internet of Things can be utilized in a huge scale such as in cities in order to improve the over-all quality of city life from simple activities such as parking your vehicle to performing more complex things such as undergoing surgery at your local hospital. The concept of a smart city is built upon the idea wherein every aspect of city life is made more convenient and more efficient through the use of networked devices, sensors and machines.
  • 13. IoT trend in 2 years  In the near future, there will be an increase in the number devices and sensors that will be connected to each other across the internet. Even now, it is evident in the various applications that are available in our smartphones such as Uber and Airbnb that devices, not just people are becoming more connected as ever. As mentioned, more sensors and devices will be integrated in the different industries to gather relevant data for the continued improvement and efficiency of the different industries.
