The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the United Nation
Body for assessing the science related to climate change.
It helps to provide the world with a clear scientific view on the current state of
knowledge in climate change and its potential environmental and socio-
economic impacts .
The aim of the IPCC report is generate an assessment report ,special report and
methodology report by analyzing numerous report from around the world . And
offer governments at all levels with scientific data that they ‘ll use to develop
climate policies.
The IPCC doesn’t conduct its own research

and transparent basis the scientific, technical and
socio - economic information relevant to
understanding the scientific basis of risk of human –
induced climate change, its potential impacts and
options for adaptation and mitigation .”

THE ROLE OF THE IPCC IS …..
7. FirstAssessmentReport
The report led to the establishment of the United
Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
(UNFCCC) in 1992 ,known as Rio Summit.
The IPCC’s First Assessment Report (FAR) appeared
in 1990. The report gave a broad overview of climate
change science. It discussed uncertainties and
provided evidence of warming. The authors said they
are certain that greenhouse gases are increasing in the
atmosphere because of human activity. This is
resulting in more warming of the Earth's surface.
Global mean surface air temperature has increased
by 0.3 to 0.6 °C over the last 100 years. Sea levels
were likely to rise by 65 cm by 2100.
8. SecondAssessmentReport
The Second Assessment Report (SAR) appeared in
1995. It strengthened the finding of the First
Assessment Report . The evidence suggests that there is
a discernible human influence on the global climate .
The Second Assessment Report provided important
material for the negotiation leading to the UNFCCC ‘s
Kyoto protocol.
Climate has changed over the past century (air
temperature has increased between 0.3 and 0.6 °C
since the last 19 th century and sea level rise to 50 cm
, in light of more evidence.
9. ThirdAssessmentReport
The Third Assessment Report (2001) focuses on climate
change consequences and the need for adaptation. It found more
evidence that most of the global warming seen over the previous
50 years was due to human activity .
The report includes a graph reconstructing global temperature
since the year 1000. The sharp rise in temperature in recent years
gave it the name “ hockey stick “.
It revised the projected rise in global temperature to 1.4 to 5.8 °C
by 2100 compared to 1990 and that by 2100, sea level were
likely to rise by as much as 80 cm from 1990 levels.
10. FourthAssessmentReport
The Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) (2007) provided
the groundwork for a post-Kyoto agreement, emphasizing
reducing global warming to 2°C.
The IPCC shared the Nobel peace prize in the year of the
report ‘s publication for this work
Some planned adaptation of human activities is occurring
now ,more extensive adaptation is required to reduce
vulnerability to climate change.
11. FifthAssessmentReport
The Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) was finalized between
2013 and 2014. It contributed scientific knowledge to the Paris
Agreement . This report again stated the fact of climate change .
It warned of the dangerous risks and it emphasized how the
world can counter climate change .
The rise in global temperature by 2100 could be
high as 4.8°C from pre –industrial times, and more
frequent and longer heat waves were virtually
certain . A large fraction of species faced extinction
,and food security would be undetermined, it said
12. Sixth Assessment Report
The IPCC is now in its sixthassessment cycle , in which
the IPCC is producing the Sixth Assessment Report
(AR6)withcontributionsbyits threeworking
The Working Group I contribution to the Sixth
Assessment Report, Climate Change 2021 : The
Physical Science Basis was released on 9 August 2021.
.
The Working Group II contribution ,Climate Change
2022:Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability was
releasedon28february2022.
The Working Group III contribution , Climate Change
2022 : Mitigation of Climate Change was released on
4April2022.

The Synthesis Report , Climate Change 2023
Synthesis Report is the last report of the Sixth
Assessment Report products ,finalized in 20
march 2023 in Interlaken , Switzerland
This Synthesis Report (SYR) of the IPCC Sixth
Assessment Report (AR6) summarizes the state
of knowledge of climate change, its widespread
impacts and risks, and climate change
mitigation and adaptation.
What does it say ….
Despite the IPCC Warning in 2018 ,the increase in
greenhouse gas emission continued so much that
the global surface temperature has already warmed
by 1.1°C over pre-industrial levels, leading to
extreme or unpredictable weather events that
risking human health and ecosystem .

disseminate greater knowledge about
man-made climate change and to lay
the foundation for the measure that
