3. Historical background
Stamford College, named after Sir Stamford Raffles (1781-1826), was established in Singapore and
Malaysia in 1950. Subsequently a campus under the name of Stamford International College was opened in
Thailand in 1995. University status was granted by Ministry of University Affairs in 2003 and the institution
was re-branded as Stamford International University in 2004.

43. Admission requirements for international Bachelor’s degree programs are
as follows:
• Completion of high school/ upper secondary school (or equivalent).
Accepted qualifications include:
1. IGCSE/GCSE/GCE O-levels with no less than 5 subjects with no less
than C grade
2. IGCSE/GCSE/GCE A-levels with no less than 3 subjects
3. Test of General Educational Development (GED) with a minimum total
score of 580 and no individual subject below 145
4. IB certificate with minimum 5 subjects with a minimum score of 4
5. IB Diploma with minimum 24 points
6. Mathayom 6 with graduation certificate and graduation diploma
• English proficiency level of IELTS 6.0, TOEFL (IBT) 78 (or equivalent),
or passing the Stamford English placement test
