Intellectual property is nonphysical
property that is based on an idea
or some ideas.
 Only de concrete, tangible or
physical embodiments are
protected by intellectual property
law.

Patents protect invention from direct imitation
for a limited period of time.
 A copyrigth gives the creator of an original
work exclusive rigths to it, usually for a
limited period of time.
 Sometimes copyrigths are sold and licensed.
 The presence of the copyrigth symbol tells
consumers that they are not allowed to
duplicate the product that carries the
copyrigth.
 A trademark is a recognizable sign, design or
expression wich distinguishes products or
services of a particular trader from similiar
products or services of other traders.
 A trade secret is a formula, practice, design,
process, pattern, or compilation of
information wich is not generally known, by
wich a business can obtain an economic
advantage over competitors or consumers.
 Infringement, with respect to patents,
copyright and trade marks.
 Misappropriation, with respect to trade
secrets.
 Is caused by using or selling a patented
invention without permission of the patent
holder.
 Is reproducing, distibuting, or performing a
work, or to make derivative works, without
permission from the copyright holder.
 It’s often called “pyracy”.
 The copyrigth holder can only get money
damages if the owner registers the copyright.
 Occurs when one party uses a trademark that
is identical or confusingly similar to a
trademark owned by another party in relation
to products or services which are identical or
similar to the products or services of the
other party.
 Is different from violations of other
intellectual property laws, since by definition
trade secrets are secret. While patents and
registered copyrigths and trademarks are
publicly available.
 Theft or misappropriation of a trade secret is
a federal crime.
 Procter & Gamble Co unit Gillet filed a lawsuit
against four former employees for disclosing
trade secrets to Shavelogic Inc, their current
employer.
 In 2006 pepsi Was offered a chance to buy a
stolen copy of Coca-Cola’s secret recipe.
An FBI sting was created and the thieves were
arrested.
