Intellect and Will
• Man is endowed with intellect and will
when he was created by God. Unlike
plants, animals, and other living things,
man has the gift of intellect and will to
understand, discern good from evil, and
make sound judgment using his freedom.
• With the use of intellect and will, man is able
to make decisions that are fair and for the
welfare and happiness of others. Are you
aware of these powers that you have as a
human being?
• With your intellect, you are able to discover what is
good, what is bad, and which among the options is
best. With your free will, you can choose what is
better from what is simply good and you can
choose to do good or not. Whatever you choose,
you are responsible for your actions. Therefore, the
intellect allows man, to understand things through
his mind.
• The will is directed at something
desirable or good. In this lesson, you will
learn how to be prudent in the use of
intellect and will which is important for
making decisions toward the truth and
goodness

affect us in a negative way.
A good decision on the other hand,
can lead to a life of happiness and
fulfillment. Read the narrative below
and see how this is possible.
Think Before You Act Kenneth Sandova
• It is 12:00 p.m. and everyone in the class was ready
to go to eat. When the bell rang, everyone rushed
out of the classroom and joined his/her own
friends.
• When the bell rang, everyone rushed out of the
classroom and joined his/her own friends. As
everyone had gone, a student was walking along
the hallway, not noticing that some guys were
behind him. When he saw them, he asked himself
"Who are they?" When he turned around because
he thought that something fell, he saw the five
boys standing in front of him.
• They surrounded him and started to tease him and
make fun of his things until they were all scattered
in the floor. A girl saw the incident but got scared,
so she ran away. The boy saw her running away
and this broke his heart because for once he
thought that someone was going to save him from
bullying
The girl went straight to the guard to
report the incident. The teachers and
other students followed her quickly
When they got there, the bullies were
about to punch the boy in the face. Good
thing the guard, teachers, and students
surrounded them and caught all of the
bullies.
• "I am sorry for leaving you earlier, I was shocked
that I knew that I had to call someone to get all of
them so that they won't bully you again," the girl
explained. The boy said, "Its okay, I thought you
were not coming back to help me because you were
also scared of them." "I was afraid, but I need to do
something to stop what they are always doing," the
girl said.
When they got out of the clinic, the
teachers told her that she did the right
thing. "Everyone should respect one
another and never bully," the girl said,
smiling.
