There is a large gap in access to healthcare in India, with 700 million people lacking access to specialists. Mobile technologies can help bridge this gap. M-health uses mobile phones and other wireless technologies to improve health outcomes, especially for remote populations. Several case studies from countries like South Africa, Brazil, and Malawi demonstrate how m-health has increased access to healthcare by enabling remote data collection, disseminating health information, and supporting communication between patients and healthcare workers. India has over 20 active m-health pilot projects focusing on areas like communicable diseases, mother/child health, and medical emergencies.
