This document discusses how a teacher integrated technology into classroom lessons to enhance student engagement and learning. It describes students using the internet to research topics, digital tools like Inspiration for brainstorming, and interactive whiteboards and websites for literacy and numeracy activities. Test results showed that students in reading groups made gains of 7-8 reading levels over two school terms by using tailored computer activities to address their specific needs, demonstrating the positive impact of technology on student achievement through increased engagement.
This presentation was run on a flipped classroom model. Before the session a video was viewed of Dr Mandy Lupton's analysis of inquiry skills and information literacy in the Australian Curriculum version 6 in Science, History, Geography, Economics and Business, Civics and Citizenship, Critical and Creative Thinking and ICT. The analysis has revealed numerous inconsistencies and lack of alignment within the Australian Curriculum. The webinar will be devoted to discussing these findings in relation to your current and future practice.

Online Learning In The Social Web: social media, web2.0, elearning, educationMichelle Pacansky-Brock
One in four college students took at least one online class is 2008. Are these online learning experiences consistent with the participatory, collaborative learning experiences college students engage in outside of their formal learning environments? How can web 2.0 tools be leveraged to bridge this pedagogical gap and make online learning dynamic, engaging, community-oriented and, overall, more successful?
This presentation by Sara Bragg (University of Brighton) was part of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) symposium at BERA Annual Conference in London, September 2014.
The project, funded by the HEA, offered groups of student teachers to reflect on the increased use of technology in schools to track students and the use of technology by students outside schools.

10. The results so far...
• The students in the Kea and Kokako Reading
groups were reading well below expectation
and accordingly formed my target group for
Literacy.
• Four students in Kea reading group:
• They started the year reading at Level 9 - three
out of the four students are currently reading
at Level 17, a movement of eight levels in less
than two terms. Not bad eh? :-)

11. • The three students in Kokako Reading
group started the year on Level 14. Two
are currently reading at Level 21 while
the third is reading at Level 22. A
movement of seven and eight levels
respectively, in less than two terms.

12. What has made the difference?
• Using the students’ running
records and reading behaviours
when reading with me, I identified
their specific learning needs.
• From there I devised and sourced
various computer activities to
address these needs.

13. • Although the activities are similar
to the “pen and paper” activities of
years gone by, the presentation is
far more appealing and interactive,
thus ensuring a much higher level
of engagement, which in turn has
resulted in higher achievement
levels.
