#GEO21 is the new project of genY.be in which more than 70 students from the Sint-
Lievenscollege in Ghent along with students from the U.S., Brazil, South Africa, China…
develop a pervasive game about food gardening
The ultimate goal of the game is that students maintain a real vegetable garden at
school and introduce data (such as amount of fertilizer, water, sunshine…) into a
database, which leads to a 3D virtual environment of the garden. During the game
students have to maximize the output of the foodgarden in a sustainable way. Bonus
points can be earned by foodgardening together with students from other contries and
continents and by playing 8 minigames (quiz, catch rain…).
The game brings together reality and fiction. Students learn about the global issues of
foodproduction, energy and water in a gaming way that really activates them.
Furthermore, they sharpen language & collaboration skills.
The project runs from January 2012 till June 2013 and can count on the support of
many official institutions.

  • 23. #GEO21 is the new project of genY.be in which more than 70 students from the Sint- Lievenscollege in Ghent along with students from the U.S., Brazil, South Africa, China… develop a pervasive game about food gardening The ultimate goal of the game is that students maintain a real vegetable garden at school and introduce data (such as amount of fertilizer, water, sunshine…) into a database, which leads to a 3D virtual environment of the garden. During the game students have to maximize the output of the foodgarden in a sustainable way. Bonus points can be earned by foodgardening together with students from other contries and continents and by playing 8 minigames (quiz, catch rain…). The game brings together reality and fiction. Students learn about the global issues of foodproduction, energy and water in a gaming way that really activates them. Furthermore, they sharpen language & collaboration skills.
