Dear students:
I hope this assignment is interesting for you. You will choose the film you write about from a list of films we provide. Selecting a film to watch may seem as simple as picking a movie with favorite actors or a genre you like (science fiction, super heroes, detective mysteries, romance). Selecting a movie, however, with enough interesting content to write about is another matter. In addition to having a plot, as most movies do, there have to be other complexities involved. Because you cannot always know this when you buy your ticket, it will help to read reviews beforehand. Two kinds of reviews can be helpful. First, professional critics, who have seen many movies, write from a well-informed point of view, but you should remember that theirs is just one point of view. Many critics address mainstream audiences or small niche audiences with a particular interest. Other critics may specialize in one film genre or the other. Whatever the case, they can tell you a lot about the plot and depth of a film, but there is more to consider.
Beyond the perspective of Professional critic, with their one point of view, are other voices from moviegoers, like yourselves, who have seen films you are interested in and they often post their responses on blogs and theater websites. These reviews are not from professionals, but can be just as valid, so long as they tell why they feel the way they do about one movie or another. Both kinds of critics can be helpful as you narrow your choice of a film to write about. In the end, you still have to pick a film on the list you feel like writing about. Think of this task as a challenge to yourself.

As we have been discussing, the mise en scène of a film is the use of a variety of design elements to create the visual theme. As you prepare to write this discussion, take a few moments to do the following:
· Read any required and recommended reading materials for this week, especially Chapter 5 (Mise en Scene and Actors).
· Review the grading rubric for this discussion.
· Select a full-length film from the AFI 10 Top 10 list.
Reflect
Mise en scène refers to different technical elements used in making a film such as lighting and sound, both of which you have already analyzed in this course. The term also encompasses the role of actors in a film, their physical positioning and movements within the frame, as well as the different styles and types of acting.
You can classify an acting category using only one film as reference, but these categories are subject to change. Each new role helps to clarify or shift an actor’s designation. Do some actors always fall into the same category? How can actors change from category to category? Does genre have any effect on the acting styles present in a given film?

Using specific examples from your chosen film, write an initial post of at least 200 words which should
· Identify three actors from your film and classify each according to the acting category listed in your text.
· Explain your reasons for classifying the actors as you do. Use specific references to the film and pay special attention to how these decisions impacted characterization. Also, consider the impact of any realistic or stylized portrayals within the film.
· Focus on one of the actors you’ve discussed. Based on other films the actor has been in, would this actor always be placed in the same category? If so, what does this say about the category or actor? If not, what can you infer about the flexibility of these categories? Provide evidence (references from other films, including film clips and stills) to support your argument.

In this project you are asked to conduct your own research into two variables that interest you. This project will give you an opportunity to apply the skills and techniques you learn in this class and to produce a professional report using appropriate technology. · These are the work of the arts from the ancients to modern art. The reason for the selection of this theme of the art is the association of the ideas behind the sculptures is the religion. The second work of art is Moses which was for the Tomb of Pope II, which was made by Michelangelo who made this piece of art in the early 16th century (1506). The third piece of art is also related to the religion, in which the wall depicts the Biblical figures, this was made by Claus Sluter, who was the artist from the Dutch origin.

She was recently referred to a child study team by the family physician. Her family doctor described her as having low muscle tone, delayed communication, and delayed motor skills. She uses her behavior and physicality for communicating needs. Mandy does point and reach for desired items, but she has not been able to reproduce any signs, despite her parents' attempts to teach her sign language for the past year. She often appears to be disengaged when playing or when her parents are encouraging her to sign. Her eye contact is minimal, tantrums are common, crying happens daily, and change is very difficult for her.
Case Study 2: Wilson
Wilson is an 11-year-old boy who was diagnosed with ASD as a toddler. He is physically healthy, but he is very sensitive to hot, cold, noises, and pain. He does not like crowds or lines and struggles with class assemblies, lunch time periods, and recesses. He is in a self-contained special education classroom on a public school campus and attends general education class for music only. He is capable of doing some general education class work, but his behavior is far too unpredictable to make further placement in a general education classroom feasible at this time. He can be impulsive and destructive when frustrated or overwhelmed. He is quite social and enjoys interacting with his peers in both settings; however, it can be difficult to discern when he will have a meltdown. He has tantrums and destroys property, and his participation in some aspects of school is limited. When changes in the schedule occur, such as school assemblies or fire drills, Wilson has a hard time adjusting and oftentimes tips over desks or kicks. He has not been able to attend the last two field trips due to his parents’ concerns for his safety.
Case Study 3: Cole
Cole is a 16-year-old boy with ASD and cognitive delays. He was born three weeks premature and required intensive neonatal care for six weeks after birth, but he is currently in good health. He passed all hearing and vision screenings. Cole uses gestures and a few verbal words to express his needs and wants; for example yes/no and hungry. He uses a few sign language gestures and some picture symbols, but mostly relies on a communication device in order to communicate with teachers, peers, and parents.

For each paper, you are responsible for watching a film and
writing a 3-4-page long essay responding to a prompt. You will
also write one additional page called “My Criteria for Quality in
Film,” resulting in a total assignment paper length of 4-5 pages,
which does not include any cover. You are required to turn in
the assignment to the proper assignment folder in LEO.
Because these paper assignments are analytical reactions and
not research summaries, the key is clearly expressing what you
have to say about each film, not what others have
said. NOTE: it is necessary to give a brief plot synopsis inside
each paper.
Putting these assignments off until the last possible moment is a
mistake. Each paper requires you to view an outside screening
beyond the titles already assigned in weekly modules, so you
should leave yourself enough time to view the film, think about
it, write a first draft, and then edit and revise your work for
maximum impact.
You must also make any necessary arrangements to view
assigned films. Check with streaming services like Netflix,
2. borrow titles from your local library, or rent media from a retail
store.
Properly spell the names of cast and crew members or risk
losing points on your grade. Using web sites like IMDB.com
and Wikipedia can be helpful when researching credit
information.
Both papers will be graded based on evidence that you are
applying the material presented in LEO. Your work will also be
judged according to the clear presentation of your opinions,
your ability to offer reasonable explanations and justifications
in support of your opinions, and your ability to write a college-
level paper (e.g., appropriate spelling, punctuation, grammar,
etc.).
You are better off watching these films on the largest possible
screen, and at the highest possible resolution.
PAPER TWO
Part 1: View a non-American, non-English-speaking feature
film (longer than 60 minutes) by a great director made from
1960-1980 that you have not seen before and that you will not
see later as part of this class. If you have trouble determining an
appropriate filmmaker, contact the Instructor for advice and
further direction.
Assume your reader does not know anything about this movie.
Give a simple, short story synopsis and then comment on the
film. Pay particular attention to the screenplay, camerawork
(cinematography), the editing (montage), and the sound
(including music). You may also address special effects. What
did you like/dislike about what you saw? Why do you have
these feelings of like/dislike? Is the film good?
Part 2: Now that you have commented on the specific film you
viewed, see if you can draw some general conclusions about the
work of the director and one of the main actors or actresses. Be

including how you see it as an example of its genre and time
period. REMEMBER: This is not a research paper. I am
interested in what you have to say, not in what you can learn by
