archives
The best use of the National Archives is for
questions dedicated to American History
When you search the National Archives you
will have four options
1) Everything- This searches the web using
Google as the search engine
2) Archives.org – This allows you to only
search the archives
3) Presidential Libraries – This allows you
to search all the Presidential Libraries
that have items online
4) Images – This allows you to do a search
specifically for images
4. Completing a search on within the archives
We are going to start with a search for information on the Army
of the Potomac
I start by clicking on the Archives.org tab, then type my search
terms into the search box

link to the Civil War Records and
to Civil War Photographs

that has to offer

10. Conclusion
◦ The National Archives have been collecting and preserving important documents from American History for the past 90 years and will
continue to do so hopefully far into the future. Many historians overlook the National Archives website instead opting for in person visits
but the Website and save a lot of time and travel money, by showing a person what is available in the Archives and possible having it
available online without the need for travel.
