Music producers are responsible for overseeing the recording process, including gathering ideas, selecting songs and artists, coaching during recording sessions, and mixing and mastering the final album. Record labels manage production, distribution, and marketing of albums, as well as enforcing copyright, though some feel they exploit artists financially. Record deals typically provide an initial advance to the artist to record the album but the label then keeps 85% of profits and recoups the advance, while also deducting other costs from artist royalties. Distribution involves making music available through various channels like CDs, videos, streaming platforms, and synergistic opportunities like magazines, YouTube, Spotify playlists, soundtracks, awards shows, and tours.
