Persimmon Homes
We employ over 3,000 people and build around
12,000 new homes each year. At any one time we
will have approximately 400 developments being built
to provide new homes for communities nationwide.
Our 24 businesses operate under two main brands,
Persimmon Homes and Charles Church. We also
have our own timber frame manufacturing business
in Birmingham called Space4, which provides timber
frames for many of the new homes we build each year.
From studio apartments and starter homes to
executive family properties, Persimmon Homes and
Charles Church have reputations built on quality and
our employees play a key role in maintaining our good
name for value for money and keen customer service.
Persimmon Plc is at the forefront of the house
building industry and has a long track record of year
on year growth, which has seen it expand from a
regional builder in Yorkshire to the first company
of its kind to enter the FTSE 100.
Employees with Persimmon can look forward to a
challenging and rewarding career in an organisation
that recognises talent and endeavour. The Company
has a comprehensive range of benefits, including
competitive salaries, bonus and commission schemes,
share options and pension schemes.
Above all the company seeks to encourage its staff
to develop a long-term relationship with us and
we always promote from within where possible.
For example, our Chief Executive Jeff Fairburn started
in the construction industry as a 17-year-old trainee
quantity surveyor.
Many of our employees joined us directly from school
at 16 and today we still have a robust apprentice
programme taking over 100 young people into the
business each year.
The company’s success is set to continue and
we want you to be part of it!

Lewis Little joined
Persimmon Homes
South Coast as
an Assistant Site
Manager in 2014.
A former army
mechanic, in 2009
Lewis also qualified
as an All Arms
Physical Training
Instructor and was
employed to get recruits up to deployment fitness.
Luke has seen active service on the frontline in
Afghanistan.
He made the “huge decision” to leave the army
because he wanted more career choice and freedom.
He said: “It’s quite a career change, but there are so
many relevant, transferable skills.
“Time management and the ordered sequence of
events are keys to both roles, along with a strong
work ethic and discipline.
“I’m really enjoying my new job, which is going well.
I know I still have a lot to learn, but I can see a career
path all the way to site manager and with the training
Persimmon is providing I am confident I will achieve it.”

Luke Homer joined Persimmon Homes Southern in the
technical department as a Layout Planner in 2014.
A Royal Engineer and Reservist, Luke has served
around the world and most recently was deployed to
Afghanistan in his role as a bomb disposal expert.
Luke is based in the Camberley office and is
responsible for all aspects of planning developments
from house layouts to the location of roads and
amenities. He brings a wealth of skills to the role
having trained as an architectural consultant during a
ten year gap from the army.
Whilst continuing to serve as a reservist Luke is
relishing his role at Persimmon: “This is my first time
working for a housing developer and it is fascinating
to be part of taking a development from a blank sheet
of paper to a successful planning application.
“A planning role
is very different
to searching for
and disposing of
bombs but the work
ethic, the discipline
needed and time
management, are
all skills that serve
equally well in both
professions.”
The Company recognises the valuable role people
like Luke are playing in today’s Armed Forces and
welcome applications from Regular and Volunteer
Reservists.

Nikki Butler started
working for
Persimmon Homes
North Midlands
after deciding to
leave the Army.
She enlisted as an
18 year old and
worked as a Royal
Logistics Corp driver
serving in various
regiments. Now she is enjoying a more stable family
life after the birth of her daughter Jessica, aged three.
Nikki said: “I loved my years in the army and served in
the UK, Germany and Cyprus. I drove various vehicles
including Land Rovers and 14 tonne vehicles, 4T
Bedford, 8T DAF and DROPS vehicles.
“I also completed exercises in Wales, Poland, the
Falklands, Cyprus, Bavaria and other countries around
the world and competed in Royal Logistic Corps alpine
ski championships, including Slalom and Super-G.
“I have also carried out Queen’s Guard duties
at Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace, Windsor
Castle and the Tower of London. It was a great job,
day to day, and I really enjoyed it.
“I decided to leave the army after starting a family
as I wanted something with more stability. I really
enjoy working as a Sales Advisor and meeting a
huge variety of customers. It is great helping people
buy their dream home. I have just gained my NVQ in
Sales and I believe I am one of the first in the group to
achieve it after studying for the past year.”
Sherrie Hankin, head of sales at Persimmon Homes
North Midlands, said: “Nikki is a great member of my
team and the drive and commitment she developed
in the army can be seen in her work here, especially in
gaining her NVQ.”
Nikki butler makes Persimmon her next maneuvre
Kage Brennan is a Trainee Site Manager for
Persimmon Homes South Coast at its Picket 20
development in Andover.
Kage joined the company in 2014, after a four year
career in the army.
The former Royal Marines Commando from
Portsmouth served in Afghanistan for seven months
at the end of 2012, as well as being based at Taunton,
Poole and Lympstone.
Kage said: “If I hadn’t gone into the Royal Marines,
I would have looked for a career in the construction
industry, so when I decided to leave the army, it
seemed like the obvious career choice.
“There are many
similarities between
the two jobs; you
have to be organised
and be good at
dealing with people
and the army gave
me a taste of the
importance of the
chain of command.
“I’m really
enjoying working
for Persimmon
and learning so much. My intention is to progress
my career all the way to site manager and run a
development of my own.”
