This document discusses different types of control systems including proportional (P), proportional-integral (PI), proportional-derivative (PD), and proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control. It provides block diagrams and explanations of how each type of controller works, the effects on steady state and transient response, and limitations. It also provides examples of applying these controllers to a mass-spring-damper system and speed control of a DC motor. Tuning of PID controllers is identified as difficult and alternative future controllers like fuzzy logic are mentioned.
This document provides an overview of knowledge management and PID tuning methods, including:
1) It describes different process characteristics and controller behaviors, and introduces common PID tuning methods like Ziegler-Nichols tuning.
2) It outlines the steps for tuning a PID controller, including understanding the process, selecting a control method, tuning approach, and initially and finely tuning parameters.
3) It details different tuning methods like open-loop, closed-loop, and trial and error, and provides equations and tables for initially setting PID parameters based on these methods.
The document describes PID controllers and their algorithms. A PID controller uses proportional, integral and derivative terms to compute a controller output signal based on the error between the measured process variable and set point. A proportional-only controller results in offset, while adding an integral term eliminates offset but can cause oscillations. A PID controller combines all three terms and provides the most precise control, but requires tuning three parameters.
An auctioneering control system uses multiple process measurements for a single controlled variable. It selects the most critical measurement to base the control action on. There are three options for selecting the measured variable - high select chooses the highest value, low select chooses the lowest, and medium select chooses the mid value. The auctioneering controller then takes action based on the selected measurement value. Auctioneering control is useful when there are multiple pressure transmitters measuring line pressure and the controller needs to select the highest pressure to reduce pump speed as needed to control discharge pressure.

Open Loop and Closed Loop Control System.pptxDelower Sumon
There are two main types of control systems: open-loop and closed-loop. Open-loop systems operate independently of feedback from the output, while closed-loop systems use feedback to automatically adjust the input based on the output. Some key differences are that open-loop systems are simpler and cheaper but less accurate, while closed-loop systems are more complex and costly but provide greater accuracy through feedback correction of errors. Examples of each type are given such as electric hand dryers for open-loop and automatic irons for closed-loop.
A proportional–integral–derivative controller (PID controller) is a control loop feedback mechanism (controller) commonly used in industrial control systems. A PID controller continuously calculates an error value as the difference between a measured process variable and a desired setpoint.
The document discusses control systems and their evolution. It provides an overview of analog control systems, digital control systems, centralized control systems, and distributed control systems. It then focuses on Yokogawa's CENTUM distributed control system (DCS), describing its components, configurations, and I/O modules.

Examples are given to show how to calculate controller gains and design op amp circuits based on given control parameters and signal change periods. The document also provides reference information for the course on process instrumentation and control taught by Dr. S. Meenatchisundaram.
This document discusses cascade control systems. It defines cascade control as using two closed loop controllers where the output of the first controller is the set point of the second. The first loop is called the master controller and the second the slave controller. Cascade control provides more precise control of processes with multiple stages. It allows compensation for load changes and helps maintain desired values. The document outlines applications in steam power plants including drum level control and steam temperature control. It notes both advantages like improved dynamics but also drawbacks like increased complexity and cost.

Vakjargon uit de meet- en regeltechniek
1 Inleidende begrippen
systemen. We zullen hieronder enkele voorbeelden aanhalen.
Exacter is: 22°C

1.4 Soorten regelingen
1.4.1 Manuele procesregeling of manuele controle

een bepaalde grens bereikt is 'A'.

koude kraan verder geopend of gesloten.

1.1 Voorkomende typen discontinu werkende regelaars
1.1.3 Tijdproportionele regelaars
Zo is

2.3 Evaluatie:
