This document provides exercises for senior students to complete during an orientation period in December 2015. It includes instructions to 1) find and summarize an article about racism, 2) describe a place using descriptive words, 3) write a paragraph using compound nouns, and 4) complete sentences about wishes and actions. Students are asked to demonstrate their writing, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills through concise responses to the given prompts and exercises.

1) Find an article about racism in an online newspaper or magazine. Read it carefully.
Choose key points. Write a summary of no more than 200 words.
2) Find a picture of a place. Make a list of at least 10 descriptive words you would use to
describe it.
3) Write a paragraph using the following compound nouns:
Willpower – childminder – traffic lights – city centre – big-headed – sliding door –
short-sighted – cold-blooded – one-in-a-million – fat free
NOTE: Make sure each compound is used in a clear context from which the meaning can
be inferred. All compounds must be related to the content of the paragraph. Separate
sentences won’t be taken into account.
