Public Enemies is a 2009 crime film directed by Michael Mann that tells the story of famous bank robber John Dillinger and his pursuit by FBI agent Melvin Purvis in 1930s America during the Great Depression. It follows Dillinger, labeled public enemy number one, as he carries out bank robberies while being hunted by Purvis and the newly formed FBI under J. Edgar Hoover. Using new investigative methods, Purvis closes in on Dillinger and his gang, culminating in a climactic confrontation between Dillinger and the FBI.
