The final project will be due on November 22th, before the Thanksgiving break on Blackboard.
You have to choose one among the following types of CMBS securities:
• Sequential Pay with three tranches
• Sequential Pay with three tranches with a Z-bond
• Floater / Inverse Floater
• PAC + Support Tranche
• TAC + Support Tranche
After that, build an excel model that will compute cash flows towards each tranche. The model will feature the following:
a) Customizable inputs for the following:
• Initial principal in each tranche (summing to total principal on the underlying mortgages)
• Maturity of the underlying loans in months
• Interest rate of the underlying loans
• Interest rate to investors in each tranche
• Servicing fee paid by the investors (same for each tranche)
• Prepayment assumption (PSA or constant CPR)
• Current market rate
b) User will input all the criteria in a) and be able to see the following update automatically:
• Amortization table for the underlying pool (initial principle, scheduled payments, prepayments, scheduled principal, interest)
• Servicing fee of each tranche
• Cash flow of each tranche
• Investor valuation for the security
c) An additional tab should include the following, fully annotated graphs (title + labeled axis)
• Initial principal of each tranche over time
• Total payments to each tranche
The grades will be awarded based on the following criteria:
· Accuracy: the spreadsheet should compute accurate cash flows for any inputs of the parameters above. The spreadsheets must necessarily be dynamic.
· User-Friendliness: it should be obvious where one should enter the parameters above and where to look for cash flows towards each tranche. Clearly state what type of security you chose.
Note: This is an individual project and intended for you to learn how to build a spreadsheet yourself from scratch. The use of a pre-made template or collaboration of any kind is strictly prohibited. It would be treated as plagiarism and duly measures would be taken against that.

Definitions: Supply Chain
A supply chain is the entire system that a firm uses to provide goods and services to its customers:
Firm’s suppliers (raw material, component, etc)
Firm’s own operating systems (manufacturing processes or service providers)
Storage systems (where materials and product are held)
Distribution systems (trucking, shipping etc)
Customers (may include retailers or consumers – any entity receiving output from a business process is called a customer.)

A first classification of a supply chain is either a manufacturing or service supply chain:
Distinguishing characteristic: Tangible vs. intangible products
Examples of service supply chains:
Functions that provide services internally such as information technology, human resources, and marketing
External customers include those found in healthcare (radiology), banking (call center).

A supply chain consists of “members” which may be
Departments, divisions
Suppliers, vendors
Partners, or
Any other entity that plays a role in delivering products or services.
These members are called “suppliers”
A member of a manufacturing supply chain would generally be classified in a hierarchical structure called “tiers”
Tier 1 supplier provides goods to the firm directly
Tier 2 supplier provides goods to Tier 1 suppliers
Tier 3 supplier provides goods to Tier 2 suppliers.

Definition: Outsourcing vs. Offshoring
When a supplier is not owned by the firm, the work performed is said to be outsourced.
Outsourced entities may physically be located within the firm itself:
Food services (e.g., the firm’s cafeteria)
Information technology (e.g., contract workers)
Security (e.g, video system monitoring)
When a facility is located in another country, the work performed is said to be offshored.

A global supply chain is one in which some work is done at an international location.
Examples of global supply chains:
Many call centers are outsourced and often offshored to low-wage countries.
Even small firms operate outsourced (and offshored) supply chains -- a florist in the US may purchase tulips from a supplier in The Netherlands and roses from a supplier in Ecuador.

COVID-19- IMPACT ON THE MANUFACTURING & INDUSTRIAL SECTORS
Welsh Consultants examines- As we work through our new normal amidst this global pandemic, we have been forced to reconsider how we operate our businesses and daily lives. The first question is: “Will the crisis prompt manufacturing companies to carry out a top- to-bottom review of their global supply chains with an eye towards reducing risks?” This paper examines the issue in detail.

The supply chains of most companies, large and small, exploit a world of opportunities. But, increasing global exposure comes with an increasing range of risks. These companies’ complex networks of suppliers and customers are as diverse as the goods and resources they manage. Within the same supply chain, giant multinational companies can sit side-by side with small to medium enterprises (SMEs). Yet, among companies large and small, there is growing awareness that extreme weather and a changing climate pose new risks and opportunities to old ways of doing business.
Smart businesses know how to manage uncertainty. As their exposure to extreme weather increases, informed businesses are incorporating the risk of extreme weather into existing risk management. Meanwhile, business continuity planning is growing to embrace the need to think about how a changing climate impacts on business.
Worldwide companies are increasingly aware that their supply chains are exposed to greater weather extremes. International competition and cheap transportation have led to expansive supply chains linked by complex logistics, multiplying risks to business continuity. The Business Continuity Institute’s latest Horizon Scanning Survey, with results from 700 organizations in 62 countries, found 53% of the survey respondents were either ‘extremely concerned’ or ‘concerned’ about the impacts of adverse weather on their businesses (BCI 2013). Business leaders are now urging companies to think about climate change (Business Green, 2013).

In recent years what restrictions have been passed into law dealing with the solicitation of credit and the issuance of credit cards? the manner in which we assure that the soil is not contaminated?

The final project will be due on November 22th, before the Thanksgiving break on Blackboard.
You have to choose one among the following types of CMBS securities:
• Sequential Pay with three tranches
• Sequential Pay with three tranches with a Z-bond
• Floater / Inverse Floater
• PAC + Support Tranche
• TAC + Support Tranche
After that, build an excel model that will compute cash flows towards each tranche. The model will feature the following:
a) Customizable inputs for the following:
• Initial principal in each tranche (summing to total principal on the underlying mortgages)
• Maturity of the underlying loans in months
• Interest rate of the underlying loans
• Interest rate to investors in each tranche
• Servicing fee paid by the investors (same for each tranche)
• Prepayment assumption (PSA or constant CPR)
• Current market rate
b) User will input all the criteria in a) and be able to see the following update automatically:
• Amortization table for the underlying pool (initial principle, scheduled payments, prepayments, scheduled principal, interest)
• Servicing fee of each tranche
• Cash flow of each tranche
• Investor valuation for the security
c) An additional tab should include the following, fully annotated graphs (title + labeled axis)
• Initial principal of each tranche over time
• Total payments to each tranche
The grades will be awarded based on the following criteria:
· Accuracy: the spreadsheet should compute accurate cash flows for any inputs of the parameters above. The spreadsheets must necessarily be dynamic.
· User-Friendliness: it should be obvious where one should enter the parameters above and where to look for cash flows towards each tranche. Clearly state what type of security you chose.
Note: This is an individual project and intended for you to learn how to build a spreadsheet yourself from scratch. The use of a pre-made template or collaboration of any kind is strictly prohibited. It would be treated as plagiarism and duly measures would be taken against that.

A supply chain is the entire system that a firm uses to provide goods and services to its customers:
Firm’s suppliers (raw material, component, etc)
Firm’s own operating systems (manufacturing processes or service providers)
Storage systems (where materials and product are held)
Distribution systems (trucking, shipping etc)
Customers (may include retailers or consumers – any entity receiving output from a business process is called a customer.)

Distinguishing characteristic: Tangible vs. intangible products
Examples of service supply chains:
Functions that provide services internally such as information technology, human resources, and marketing

A supply chain consists of “members” which may be
Departments, divisions
Suppliers, vendors

Any other entity that plays a role in delivering products or services.
These members are called “suppliers”
A member of a manufacturing supply chain would generally be classified in a hierarchical structure called “tiers”
Tier 1 supplier provides goods to the firm directly
Tier 2 supplier provides goods to Tier 1 suppliers
Tier 3 supplier provides goods to Tier 2 suppliers.

When a supplier is not owned by the firm, the work performed is said to be outsourced.
Outsourced entities may physically be located within the firm itself:
Food services (e.g., the firm’s cafeteria)
Information technology (e.g., contract workers)
Security (e.g, video system monitoring)
When a facility is located in another country, the work performed is said to be offshored.

A global supply chain is one in which some work is done at an international location.
Examples of global supply chains:
Many call centers are outsourced and often offshored to low-wage countries.
Even small firms operate outsourced (and offshored) supply chains -- a florist in the US may purchase tulips from a supplier in The Netherlands and roses from a supplier in Ecuador.

Welsh Consultants examines- As we work through our new normal amidst this global pandemic, we have been forced to reconsider how we operate our businesses and daily lives. Any changes have ripple effects across our communities and local-economies.Change is needed to survive, and so we adapt. Crisis is the ultimate disruptor, change facilitator, and accelerant. Companies that were perhaps reluctant to embrace changes are now obligated to prepare and deliver new services. Innovations become abundant and creativity thrives. Areas like AI, Automation, IoT, and PropTech are areas we can’t ignore as we also explore a pandemic response strategy. The first question is: “Will the crisis prompt manufacturing companies to carry out a top- to-bottom review of their global supply chains with an eye towards reducing risks?” This paper examines the issue in detail.

The supply chains of most companies, large and small, exploit a world of opportunities. But, increasing global exposure comes with an increasing range of risks. These companies’ complex networks of suppliers and customers are as diverse as the goods and resources they manage. Within the same supply chain, giant multinational companies can sit side-by side with small to medium enterprises (SMEs). Yet, among companies large and small, there is growing awareness that extreme weather and a changing climate pose new risks and opportunities to old ways of doing business.
Smart businesses know how to manage uncertainty. As their exposure to extreme weather increases, informed businesses are incorporating the risk of extreme weather into existing risk management. Meanwhile, business continuity planning is growing to embrace the need to think about how a changing climate impacts on business.
Worldwide companies are increasingly aware that their supply chains are exposed to greater weather extremes. International competition and cheap transportation have led to expansive supply chains linked by complex logistics, multiplying risks to business continuity. The Business Continuity Institute’s latest Horizon Scanning Survey, with results from 700 organizations in 62 countries, found 53% of the survey respondents were either ‘extremely concerned’ or ‘concerned’ about the impacts of adverse weather on their businesses (BCI 2013). Business leaders are now urging companies to think about climate change (Business Green, 2013).

Discuss all of the possible legal theories of recovery and possible defenses. Analyze and evaluate the various issues presented while arguing and debating the connections between business, law, politics, and ethics. Be specific when describing causes of action and defenses. 4. (TCO E) With the credit-card contracts, credit-card companies can unilaterally change the interest rate. Discuss whether there should be any requirements of reasonableness or fair dealing implied in the agreement. Please define the concept of an unconscionable contract. Could such a concept apply in the case of credit card contracts? Would the nonwaivable good faith provision in Uniform Commercial Code Section 1-304 affect this situation? In recent years what restrictions have been passed into law dealing with the solicitation of credit and the issuance of credit cards? Discuss the effect on state regulations if the federal government, through the Environmental Protection Agency, changes the standards for air pollution and carbon dioxide emissions. the manner in which we assure that the soil is not contaminated?

Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

Chris Jones, Director of Product Management at BrainChip , presents the “Temporal Event Neural Networks: A More Efficient Alternative to the Transformer” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices. This event will adopt a hybrid format, allowing participants to join us either through an online Mircosoft Teams session or in person at TU/e located at Den Dolech 2, Eindhoven, Netherlands. The meet-up will be hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a research university specializing in engineering science & technology.
Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

- Simulations were conducted of the intra-and inter-firm economic impacts to 3,300 chlorine-related firms of disruptions to chlorine rail transport. After a disruption, larger firms are affected more than small, and regional market power for sellers is large, creating strong competition between buyers. A potential management-based policy of optionally expediting rail cars would decrease in-transit inventories of chlorine by 40%, significantly reducing the potential of chlorine railcars being used as weapons of mass destruction.
