Inertia is the property of matter that resists changes in its motion or state of rest. Examples of inertia in daily life include water droplets continuing to spin off a stopped umbrella due to their inertia, and a hammer head continuing its downward motion after being hit to slot further into its handle when the handle stops moving. Inertia causes objects to maintain their current motion or rest unless acted upon by an external force.
