38. My message is a call to action: Be aware of these five
attributes, don’t expect the gravy train to run forever,
and don’t assume your education will take care of you.
Rather, invest in yourself – in language skills, in thirst
for knowledge, in true professionalism and, finally, in
thinking creatively and non-hierarchically. This will
hold you in good stead in our knowledge economy and
help lay a strong foundation for the next productive
generation that follows you.
Together, I hope we, your employer, and you, the
employee, can forge an enduring partnership.

42. FICCI Survey on Labor / Skill Shortage for Industry
As the above chart shows, a sweeping majority
of 90% of the participating companies have indicated that they are unable to find
adequate number of workers for running their operations. leading to slippages in
meeting confirmed orders
Companies have also reported that they have started facing the brunt of this
shortage in the form of slippages in meeting confirmed orders. About 89% of the
respondents said that they have been unable to fully meet the potential demand for
their products in the market due to labor shortage.
46. THE STARK REALITY
It is estimated that India’s economy will create 500M jobs in
the next decade – 75% of which will be skills based. Today,
workers with vocational education only comprise 2-4% of the
trained workforce ; this large gap between existing supply
and projected demand will pose a large challenge in the
coming years, driven by two main factors:
The training industry faces capacity constraints
A mismatch exists between industry demands for skilled
labour and current development programs

47. Change is obtainable through
shared vision for change, one that includes a common understanding of the
problem and a joint approach to solving it through agreed upon actions.
Developing a shared measurement system is essential to collective impact.
Agreement on a common agenda is illusory without agreement on the ways success
will be measured and reported. Collecting data and measuring results consistently.
The change initiatives depend on a diverse group of stakeholders working together,
not by requiring that all participants do the same thing, but by encouraging each
participant to undertake the specific set of activities at which it excels in a way that
supports the over all growth.
Creating and managing change system requires a separate organization and staff
with a very specific set of skills to serve as the backbone for the entire initiative.
Coordination takes time, and none of the participating organizations has any to spare.
The expectation that collaboration can occur without a supporting infrastructure is
one of the most frequent reasons why it fails..
