However, it would be practically impossible for the SEC to require all the above-listed information in one expansive rule. In
addition, though it might please climate change activists, it would alienate issuers and bring heaps of scorn from the business

AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND
The ASX 200 rose for a fourth consecutive session and only ~1.2% away from fresh six month highs. Growth and
resources continue to catch a bid while defensive sectors like Healthcare and Staples lag. For the week, Energy,
Materials and Tech sectors all rose more than 3.5% while Staples and Healthcare finished -0.4% and -2.1%
respectively.
This V-shaped move have investors pondering whether or not the market is getting a little overbought and due for
a pullback. At the same time, this was a rather step change week with upbeat factors such as:
•US dollar breaking down (generally a positive for resources)
•Growth and risk sectors such as Russell 2000, Ark Innovation ETF and Betashares ATEC demonstrating
extreme strength
•US market showing the highest amount of net new highs since 2020
•US inflation hitting 3.0% from peaks of 9.1% in June 2022
•Bond yields also breaking down
There's also increasing calls for more fiscal stimulus in China (another tailwind for resources) as well as upcoming
US earnings season, which features a rather low-bar dynamic where S&P 500 EPS are expected to fall 7.2%
year-on-year. Let's see how US banks report tonight and whether or not the 'easy' market conditions can continue
next week.

Chinese GDP rebound could mask cracks below
the surface
China is rarely out of the headlines these days amid
persisting fears that the economic recovery is
faltering and doubts about how far the government
is willing to go to pump more stimulus. On Monday,
when the second quarter GDP estimate is reported,
investors will likely breathe a sigh of relief, at least
initially.
The economy is expected to have expanded by
7.3% year-on-year, which would make it the fastest
growth since the second quarter of 2021. However,
GDP shrank in the same quarter of 2022 so this
would flatter the annual comparison. Moreover, on
a quarterly basis, growth is projected at just 0.5%,
which is below China’s average and well below the
pace that is needed to achieve yearly growth of
around 5% that the government is aiming for.

Latin America’s economies held up well last year despite the shocks from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
and global interest rate hikes. In 2022, the region’s economy expanded by nearly 4 percent,
employment recovered strongly, and the service sector rebounded from the damage caused by the
pandemic.
Inflationary pressures are receding in many countries due to the early and determined efforts of central
banks as well as lower global prices of food and energy. However, core inflation (that is, excluding food
and energy), remains high at around 8 percent in Brazil, Mexico, and Chile (and somewhat higher in
Colombia but lower in Peru).

Summary:
Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare,
Consumer Goods and Technology sectors led shares higher while losses in the Oil & Gas,
Telecoms and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.33% to hit a new 6-months
high, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.10%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.18%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were UnitedHealth
Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH), which rose 7.27% or 32.56 points to trade at 480.31 at the
close. Meanwhile, Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) added 0.99% or 1.05 points to end at
107.37 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) was up 0.94% or 0.57 points to 60.92 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which fell 2.50% or 3.93
points to trade at 153.58 at the close. Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) declined 2.38% or 1.29 points to
end at 52.92 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) was down 2.25% or 1.16 points to 50.37.
