Task 1 Understand the structure and ownership of
the media sector
Film Industry
   The film industry is an ever growing industry that many people
     become a part off everyday. The film industry consists of
     technological and commercial institutions of film making such as
     film production companies, film studios, cinematography, film
     production, screenwriting, pre-production, post production, film
     festivals, distribution; and actors, film directors and other film
     crew personnel.
   The film industry is a very expensive industry to get into especially if
     you are a film maker. Many people start of as armature film
     makers by making short films which can be shown at film festivals
     such as the one located in France. If their film is shown there and
     receives good reviews then that’s their ticket into the film
     industry. However to make a film you need all the equipment if
     you wish to make it in the film industry which is a very tricky
     business.
Radio Industry
The radio industry is a growing source of media which has
become a massive part in peoples lives. Radio can be
listened too anywhere from your car, phone or from your
computer.
 Radio can be broken down into two groups commercial and
public service radio which have many differences about
them. With the evolution of technology people can now listen
to radio whenever they want which causes the radio industry
to lose less listeners. Most commercial radio stations such as
Capital and XFM have their own podcasts which allows you
to listen to shows that you have missed.
Ofcom is the radio regulator which sets certain laws and
regulations that radios much follow in order to keep it in good
working order such as no swearing or offensive language.
Television Industry
The TV industry is dominated by broadcasters which we see
all the time. There are over 300 channels in the UK alone
and its forever expanding.
In the television industry channels such as BBC, ITV,
Channel four, Five, S4C, SMG and UTV are all called Public
Service Broadcasters who have a set of regulations they
must follow. These are set out in there licenses, and for the
BBC the rules are set out in their charter.
A lot of independent companies are found in the TV industry
and is by far the largest part of the industry. Companies like
these ones produce shows like X factor, Big brother and so
one which we all know are very popular TV sows. Larger
companies called super indies have a turn over of £100-£200
million per year and employees thousands of people each
year.
Print Industry
When printing in the printing industry
it is usually done in large quantities
and is essential part of the process.
When the printing industry first started
it use to be done by block printing
which took a very long time. Now you
can get digital printing which is a lot
easier and a lot faster. With the
growth in technology comes more
ways of printing.
Advertising & Marketing
Industry
   Advertising is used to communicate with people by trying to
    persuade or manipulate them. This is carried out by many shops
    such as Apple who always advertise their products on television
    and make them look very easy to use. Another reason for
    advertising is to reassure the employees or creators that their
    product I selling and will bring a profit.



   Marketing is used to communicate the value of a certain product
    to their audience. Marketing is the link between society’s material
    requirements and its economic patterns of response. This is how
    marketing satisfies their needs and at the same tome builds long
    term relationships with society.
Press
   The press area a group of people
    finding out the latest gossip about
    topics they think will be popular in
    the public eye e.g. kates boobs. It
    can be gathered in
   Newspapers
   Magazines
