financial and economic crisis has – hopefully – been overcome, a sustainable upturn will

first round of discussions will examine structural change in European industry as a
challenge for the regions, focusing on the examples of Silesia, Bohemia and Moravia.
The regional industrial sectors undergoing change there will be discussed in three
working groups for mining, electrical engineering and car-making, and the steel
industry. On the second day trade unionists and researchers will discuss whether new
jobs must be “green” jobs, before European politicians explore the impact of European
structural policy on the social and economic policies of the member states.
To conclude, practitioners and researchers will outline the challenges for trade unions
