This report analyzes patent, utility model, and industrial design filings and grants in Kenya from 1990-2014. It finds that while filings have increased steadily, rejection rates remain high. Specifically: - Patent filings increased 24-fold from 1990-2013, but 73.5% of the 2,388 patents filed were rejected. The majority of granted patents were filed through the Patent Cooperation Treaty. - Utility model and industrial design filings also increased, but rejection rates were 90% and 49% respectively. - Most filings came from companies, though partnerships also filed significantly.
